About Television
A machine that brings picture and sound
Television is a machine that lets you see and hear pictures and sounds sent from far away.
You can watch many different shows like news, weather, cartoons, and sports.
Thin and big screen
Today, Television uses thin screens called LCD and OLED.
So, even big screens are very thin and light.
You can even hang it on the wall.
The Television in the first coloring page also stands thin screen on thin legs.
Star of the living room
Television is often put in the living room where the family gets together.
You can sit on the sofa and enjoy watching the same show with all your family.
The second coloring page shows a Television on a stand and a living room with a sofa.
Old-time Television
Old Televisions used a big glass tube called a CRT, so they were deep like a box.
Like in the third coloring page, some Televisions looked like furniture with four legs on a wooden box.
The screen was a black-and-white Television that only showed white and black. You turned a round knob to change channels.
Rules for watching Television
When you watch Television, sit a little bit away from the screen.
If you sit too close, your eyes will get tired.
Keep the room bright, and do not watch for a long time without stopping.
It is good to talk with your family about what shows to watch and how long.
People who make Television shows
Many people work together to make Television shows, like camera operators, announcers, and directors.
Lots of people help each other in news studios and movie sets.
Things you can do with Television
With today's Television, you can not only watch shows, but you can also watch online videos and play games.
If you record a show, you can watch it later.
Television supports your family's fun in many ways.
3 Coloring pages
There are 3 coloring pages: a Television, a living room with a Television, and an old Television with legs.
Try drawing your favorite show inside the screen!
How to Color Television
Draw your favorite picture on the screen
The Television screen is left blank and white.
Draw anything you want to watch, like your favorite anime characters, animals, or scenery.
If you leave it blank, color the screen dark gray or black to show the Television is turned off.
The frame and the stand
Color the frame around the screen black, and color the legs of the stand silver.
If you leave a little bit of white line on the frame, it will look nice and shiny!
Use gentle colors for the living room
For the second coloring page, try coloring the sofa and cushions beige or light gray, the rug gray, and the houseplant green.
Coloring the legs of the round table black makes the room look neat and sharp.
An old Television uses wood colors
For the third coloring page, color the outer part of the Television with legs dark brown, the front light brown, and the screen light gray.
Color the knobs silver to make it look like a real old machine!
Add more drawings to the living room
Try drawing your family or pets on the sofa in the second coloring page.
If you draw a show your family likes to watch on the Television screen, it will become a fun living room picture!
The Television stand
Try coloring the Television stand in the second coloring page white or wood color.
Coloring the drawer handles silver makes the living room look clean and neat.
Add a show to the old Television, too
Try drawing a picture on the screen of the Television with legs in the third coloring page, too.
Old Televisions were in black and white, so if you use only black and gray, it will look just like a real old Television!
Fun Facts About Television
The Beginning of Television Broadcasts
Television broadcasts started in Japan in 1953.
Back then, Television was very expensive, so few people had one at home.
Many people gathered around street Televisions placed in front of train stations and public squares to watch pro wrestling and baseball.
The Three Sacred Treasures
In the late 1950s, black-and-white Television was called one of the "Three Sacred Treasures," along with the washing machine and refrigerator.
They were the dream home appliances that everyone wanted to have.
Later on, color Television became popular.
Turning the Channel
On old Television, you changed the channel by turning a round knob with a click-clack sound next to the screen.
Some people still say "turn the channel" today because of those days.
Remote controls became popular much later.
Terrestrial Digital TV
Today's Television broadcasting is called terrestrial digital broadcasting, or chideji for short.
In 2011, most areas in Japan switched from the old broadcasts to digital broadcasts.
With digital broadcasting, the picture on the screen became very clear.
