About Koran angelfish
A mysterious fish that changes its body pattern!
The Koran angelfish is a very beautiful tropical fish. Its biggest feature is that its body pattern is completely different when it is a child compared to when it becomes an adult. It got this name because its pattern when it is a child looks just like a swirl. As it grows up, its pattern changes a lot and it gets an even grander look.
What does its body pattern look like?
The best part about the Koran angelfish is how its pattern changes as it grows up.
- When it is a child (young fish): Its whole body is a dark blue, with lots of pretty white and light blue swirl patterns on it. These swirl patterns stretch from the middle of its face toward the back of its body.
- When it becomes an adult (grown fish): The swirl patterns disappear, and its whole body turns yellow-green or yellow. Toward its top fin and tail fin, it gets many blue lines, making it look like it is wearing a very fancy dress.
Where does it live?
The Koran angelfish lives in coral reefs in the warm Indian Ocean and Pacific Ocean.
- You can find it across a wide area, especially in places like Japan (the Ogasawara Islands and Okinawa), the Philippines, Indonesia, and Australia.
- It uses gaps in corals and rocks as hiding spots and swims around comfortably.
What does it eat?
The Koran angelfish mainly eats seaweed and tiny creatures living on the surface of coral.
- Because it has a small mouth, it eats by nibbling carefully around the coral.
How long does it live?
It is said that in the wild sea, the lifespan of a Koran angelfish is about 15 to 20 years. It lives a relatively long time compared to other fish in the angelfish family.
