Pterodactyl lived near the end of the "Jurassic period," about 150 million years ago, and is a member of the pterosaur group. Pterodactyl is not a dinosaur, but a reptile that flew in the sky during the same era. Pterodactyl is part of an early group of pterosaurs and has a short tail like a bird.

The English name of the Pterodactyl is Pterodactylus. This name comes from the Greek words "pteron" (wing) and "dactylos" (finger), and it means "wing finger." It was named this way because of how its body was built: a big sheet of skin stretched across its very long ring finger to make a wing!

Where were the fossils found?

Pterodactyl fossils were found in a place called the Solnhofen Limestone in Germany, Europe.
