When was it created?

The first versions of Candy were made a super long time ago! People back then boiled honey and fruit juice to make sweet treats. The hard Candy we know today became popular after people started using lots of sugar.

What kinds are there?

There are many friends in the Candy family! Here are a few of them.

• Hard Candy: This is the hard kind you see all the time, and you can enjoy the flavor for a long time. It comes in many flavors, like fruit and soda!
• Soft Candy: This kind is soft and melts in your mouth when you chew it. Chewy candies like Hi-Chew and Puccho are in this family!
• Gummies: These are fun treats with a squishy texture. They are often made from fruit juice and come in all sorts of shapes!
• Marshmallows: These are fluffy and light treats. If you toast them, they melt and taste even better!
• Caramel: This is a sweet treat with a little bit of a bitter taste, made by boiling sugar and milk together.

How is it made?

Candy is made by mixing sugar and water together and heating it up until it gets very hot. Then, it gets cooled down to harden. By adding yummy flavors, bright colors, and making fun shapes, the Candy we all love is ready!

How to Choose Colors

Candy often shows what flavor it is by its color. Imagine your favorite flavor and color it in!

• For strawberry flavor: Using red or pink makes it look tasty.
• For lemon flavor: Using yellow shows off that sour feeling.
• For melon flavor: Yellow-green or green is perfect.
• For soda flavor: Using light blue or blue gives it a refreshing look.
• For grape flavor: Using purple makes it look just like sweet grapes.
• For rainbow Candy: If you color with many colors side by side, you get a pretty rainbow Candy.

Make It Look Shiny!

Candy looks shiny and bright when light hits it. Let's try to show that shine.

• When using colored pencils: After you color, lightly go over it with a white colored pencil to make it look like light is hitting it.
• When using crayons: Leave a tiny white spot uncolored to make it look shiny.

How to Make It Look 3D: Think About "Shadows" and "Light"!

Candy comes in round shapes and many different angles. Let's add shadows to make it look 3D. Places with shadows are:

• The bottom of the Candy, or where shapes overlap
• The dented parts of a pattern
• The back side where light hard to reach
• If you leave the top or bright parts a bit lighter, or color them softly, your Candy will look smooth, round, and delicious!

Decorate the Background!

• Wrappers: If you give the Candy wrapper stripes or polka dots, it will look super cute. You can draw any picture you like on it too.
• Sparkles: If you draw yellow or orange sparkles around the Candy, it will look even tastier.
• Friends: It is fun to draw other flavors of Candy next to it to make a Candy festival.
