Carrying dirt with a big mouth! Dump truck
Dump truck is a very strong truck that works at construction sites and quarries to carry lots of dirt, rocks, and sand. The big bed in the back can tilt open so it can unload everything all at once, which is called a "dump"!
What kinds are there?
There are many different kinds of Dump truck. From small Dump truck that you see when people build houses, to giant Dump truck that work in huge mines, they come in different sizes to match where they work.
- Small and medium Dump truck: You often see these at neighborhood construction sites and roadwork areas. They have a square bed behind the driver's seat.
- Large Dump truck: The bed is much bigger so it can carry a lot of dirt and sand at one time. They work hard at places like highway construction sites.
- Heavy-duty Dump truck (Off-road Dump truck): These have super big tires and do not drive on regular roads. They are made to carry rocks and coal in huge, bumpy places like mines and dam construction sites. Some of these Dump truck are as big as a building!
History of Dump truck
Long ago, carrying dirt and rocks was very hard work. People had to carry things by hand, or use horses and donkeys to pull carts. After cars were invented, trucks were used, but unloading them was still done by hand. So, people came up with the idea of a truck bed that could tilt by itself to drop off the load. That was the start of Dump truck!
People say that the first Dump truck was invented in America and Europe between the late 19th century and early 20th century. At first, they ran on steam or needed people to tilt the bed by hand. But over time, they started using fluid power (hydraulics) to move the bed much more easily. Today, you can lift the bed with just one button and unload lots of heavy things in no time!
How to Color Dump truck
How to Choose Colors
Dump trucks are vehicles that do big work at construction sites, so painting them with strong and bright colors makes them look super cool!
- Cabin (Driver's Seat): Bright colors like red, yellow, orange, and blue make it easy to see from far away! Choosing colors that stand out at a construction site helps keep everyone safe too.
- Truck Bed: This part gets dirty easily depending on what it carries, so darker or calmer colors like gray, black, dark green, and dark blue look great. If your Dump truck is carrying sand or dirt, you can add a little bit of brown or beige!
- Tires: Make the tires black and the wheels (the middle part of the tires) silver or gray to make it look just like a real one!
- Lights: Color the headlights in the front yellow or light blue, and the taillights in the back red to make them look like they are glowing!
- Windows: Color the windows light blue or light gray to show light reflecting off them. It will look just like real glass!
Let's Show Its Power!
The shape of a Dump truck is designed to look super strong! Let's try to show that power in your coloring page too.
- Color In Solidly: Coloring nicely without leaving blank spots makes the Dump truck look extra tough and sturdy.
- Add Shadows: Use a slightly darker color to add shadows under the truck bed or inside the dipped parts of the cabin. This makes it pop out and look even stronger!

Imagine where your Dump truck is working, and draw a background too!
- Construction Site: If you draw piles of dirt, other construction vehicles, or an excavator, everyone can see how hard your Dump truck is working!
