About Tow truck

The car that goes to help stuck cars

A Tow truck is a car that moves cars that cannot run because of accidents or breakdowns to another place.
If a car stops right in the middle of the road, it is dangerous because cars behind it might crash, or the road gets crowded.
When that happens, it rushes to the spot right away and clears the stuck car off the road.
It plays a huge part in road services like JAF. At JAF, it works at many places as the main road service car.
Many of them have tools to lift cars attached to a small truck body.

Lifting the front wheels and pulling

The back of a Tow truck has an arm for lifting cars.
When it backs up to the front of the car it will move, it extends its arm under the front wheels and fastens them tightly with metal parts.
Then, as it slowly lifts only the front wheels, the back wheels stay on the ground and roll right along behind it.
It can work quickly because it can move a car without loading the whole thing.
The arm that stands up at a slant is called a boom. It is also used to pull up cars that have fallen into ditches or off the side of the road.

Page 1 is a Tow truck with an arm and extra tires

The 1st coloring page shows a small Tow truck seen from the front right side.
Behind the driver's seat, the boom rises up toward the back, and you can see 2 round lights lined up at the very top.
On the back bed, there are 2 extra tires and a toolbox with a non-slip pattern.
Along the side of the truck body, many doors for storing tools are lined up.
It keeps tools to help stuck cars put away in all kinds of places.

Page 2 shows a big lift arm from behind

The 2nd page is a scene showing a Tow truck from behind on a road lined with plants and trees.
In the middle, a thick, big lift arm is folded up vertically, with 2 long bars attached across it.
On the back of the car, you can see a slanted stripe pattern and U-shaped metal parts.
Deep inside the back bed, 2 extra tires are standing up here, too.
On the right side, one traffic cone is placed to show where the work is taking place.

Page 3 is a car carrier truck that carries a whole car

The 3rd page is a car carrier truck that carries a small car on its flat back bed.
A car carrier truck tilts its bed or slides it backward close to the ground, and then loads the car onto it.
If a car cannot drive on its own, a machine that winds up wire called a winch pulls it up onto the bed.
Since all 4 wheels go on the bed, even broken cars can be moved without scraping the ground.
In road service, workers choose between a pulling Tow truck and a loading car carrier truck depending on the trouble.
Houses and clouds are drawn behind it, showing it driving through town.
It is also fun to compare it with a car transporter that carries many cars at once.

How to Color Tow truck

Make the lifting arm a bright color

The main feature of a Tow truck is the boom or lift arm in the back.
Real ones sometimes have their arms painted yellow so people can see them from far away.
If you color the truck body white or light blue and the arm yellow, you can tell right away where the working part is!
You can use any colors you like for your coloring page, so red or orange would look super cool too.

Color the stripes every other line

On the second page, let's color the diagonal stripes on the back using two colors, one after the other!
If you pick high-contrast color combos like yellow and black, or red and white, it will stand out just like a real one.
It is easier to avoid mistakes if you color all of one color first, and then do the other color after.

The spare tire and toolboxes

On the first and second pages, you can see a spare tire in the truck bed.
Color the tire black or dark gray, and the wheel in the middle light gray to make it look real!
For the toolboxes with non-slip patterns, color them light gray first. Then, add a slightly darker gray over the tiny bumps to give them a shiny metal feel.

The loaded car and the city scene

For the third page, the trick is to color the car carrier and the car on it in different colors!
If you color the car carrier white or dark blue, and the car red or pink, anyone can tell right away which car is being carried.
Color the sky light blue, leave the clouds white, and try coloring the house walls and roofs in gentle brown or green.
For the tree and bushes on the second page, mix dark green and light green together to make the leaves look nice and full!

Fun Facts About Tow truck

A tow truck is a helper that clears away broken things

The word Tow truck comes from the English word "wrecker."
In English, broken ships or cars are called "wrecks."
People say that Tow truck originally meant a person who pulls cargo out of broken ships.
In English-speaking countries, people often call a Tow truck a "tow truck."

It all started with a car that fell into a river

The very first Tow truck was built by a man named Ernest Holmes, who ran a car repair shop in Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA.
After having a hard time pulling out a car that fell into a river, he came up with a Tow truck that had lifting arms attached to a car in 1916.
Today, Chattanooga even has a museum that shows the history of the Tow truck.

"Dollies" are used for cars with four spinning wheels

For some cars that send power to all four wheels, if you lift only the front wheels and pull, the back wheels will not roll well.
When that happens, people put the wheels on the ground onto a little wheeled cart called a dolly to carry the car.
With both strong lifting power like a crane truck and clever ideas for every stuck car, a Tow truck comes to the rescue!
