About Strawberry

Sweet, Sour, and Yummy Fruit! Strawberry!

Strawberry is a cute fruit with a bright red color and lots of tiny bumps. It is sweet, sour, and super tasty, so people use it in all kinds of desserts like cakes and tarts. In Japan, you can go Strawberry picking in the spring and have lots of fun!

Where Does It Grow?

Strawberry grows big and strong by soaking up plenty of sunlight. In Japan, people grow a lot of them from winter to spring inside warm greenhouses. Farmers often grow them on high shelves so the fruit does not touch the dirt.

How Strawberry Grows

Strawberry grows long, vine-like stems that bloom with tiny white flowers. Once these flowers are pollinated, they slowly swell up and turn into the shape of a Strawberry. They are green at first, but as they soak up the sun, they turn bright red and ripe!

The Secret of the Tiny Bumps

The surface of a Strawberry has many tiny bumps. Guess what? These bumps are not just seeds! They are actually the real fruit of the Strawberry. The big red part you love to eat is really the swollen base of the flower.

So Many Kinds of Strawberry!

There are many different types of Strawberry in Japan.

  • Tochiotome: Grown in Tochigi Prefecture, it has a great balance of sweet and sour flavors.
  • Amaou: Grown in Fukuoka Prefecture, its name comes from the Japanese words for "sweet, round, big, and yummy."
  • Benihoppe: Grown in Shizuoka Prefecture, it is super sweet. Its name means "red cheeks" because it is so yummy your cheeks might melt!

Full of Good Nutrition!

Strawberry is packed with healthy stuff for your body.

  • Vitamin C: It has even more Vitamin C than lemons! This helps you fight off colds and keeps your skin nice and healthy.
  • Dietary Fiber: It also has plenty of fiber to keep your tummy feeling happy.

How to Color Strawberry

How to Choose Colors: Make it Look Shiny and Red!

When you color Strawberry, the main trick is to show its yummy red color and shiny look! Instead of just coloring it all red, try adding light and dark spots. This will make Strawberry look much more real.

  • Strawberry Body Color:
    • Use red as your main color. If you mix in a little pink or orange, it will look soft and sweet.
    • Leave a tiny bit of white or light pink where the light hits it.
    • Add a little dark red or brown to the shadowy parts to make it pop out.
  • Tiny Seed Color:
    • Color the little seeds with yellow or cream color by making tiny dots.
  • Leaf Top Color:
    • Color the green leaves on top of Strawberry with green.
  • Background Color:
    • Strawberry grows in a garden field. Mix colors like green, brown, and light blue to show Strawberry growing in nature.

How to Make it Look 3D: Think About Light and Shadows!

Strawberry has a cute, round shape. If you use light and dark colors and add shadows, your coloring page will look super lively!

  • Where to Use Light Colors:
    • Imagine light hitting the round parts of Strawberry, and leave those spots a little lighter.
    • You can also draw a quick line with a white colored pencil over the dark red to make it look shiny!
  • Where to Add Shadows:
    • Parts that overlap or spots under the leaves will be in the shade.
    • Coloring these places with a little dark red or brown makes it look real.

Tips for Pencils, Crayons, and Paints!

  • Colored Pencils:
    • Press hard for dark colors and press softly for light colors. This makes it easy to show shade!
    • Layering other colors like pink or brown over red gives it a nice, rich color.
  • Crayons:
    • Crayons are great for making a smooth, shiny look. You can also rub the color with your finger to blend it!
  • Paints:
    • Mix a little water into red paint to make light pink, and paint the light spots first. Once it dries, paint dark red over it to make it look deep and rich.
