People first started growing Grape to make wine about 8,000 years ago in the Caucasus region. After that, it spread to ancient places like Mesopotamia, Egypt, and Greece. It traveled to Asia along the Silk Road, and people say it came to Japan from China about 1,300 years ago.

Grape grows in warm areas. In Japan, places like Yamanashi, Nagano, and Okayama are famous for growing lots of Grape. When it grows in places with plenty of sunlight and a nice breeze, Grape becomes sweet and delicious.

How Grape grows

In spring, the Grape vine grows many tiny white flowers. These flowers slowly swell up and turn into small Grape berries. At first, they are very small and hard. But from summer to fall, they soak up the sun, grow bigger, and ripen into yummy colors.

Different kinds of Grape

You can find many kinds of Grape in Japan!

• Delaware: This Grape has slightly smaller berries and is super sweet. The skin peels off easily, so kids love it.
• Kyoho: This Grape has big berries and a rich, sweet taste. People even call it the "King of Grape."
• Shine Muscat: You can eat this popular Grape right with its skin! It has a crisp crunch and a refreshing sweet taste. It has no seeds, so it is easy to eat.
• Pione: This Grape has big berries just like Kyoho. It is very sweet with a nice, tiny tang.
• Muscat: This Grape has a beautiful green color and a fresh, lovely smell.
• Kaiji: A pretty reddish-purple Grape. You can enjoy its fancy sweet flavor and scent.

How to Choose Colors: Show Off the Bumpy Bunch!

When you color Grape, the key is to show its yummy colors and bumpy bunch. Use purple and green! Try adding bright spots where the light hits and dark spots for shadows. This will make your Grape look super real!

• Types of Grape Colors:
  • Purple Grape: When you think of Grape, you think of purple! Use purple as your main color. If you draw Kyoho or Pione, use a slightly darker purple. For Delaware, use a slightly brighter purple. That will make them look real!
  • Green Grape: If you color a green Grape like Shine Muscat, use green as your main color. Mix in light green or a little bit of yellow to make it look fresh!

• Where to Use Light and Dark:
  • Imagine where the light hits the round Grape berries. Leave a little bit of light color there!
  • Draw a smooth line with a white colored pencil over the dark color. This is another fun way to make it shiny!
