About Tokyo Metro Ginza Line 1000 Series
The Oldest Subway in Japan
The Ginza Line is a subway that connects Shibuya and Asakusa in Tokyo.
It opened between Ueno and Asakusa in 1927. It is the very first subway in Japan, and in all of Asia!
It runs under busy parts of Tokyo like Ginza, Nihombashi, and Ueno. Lots of people ride it every day.
The distance between stations is short, and there are 19 stations in all.
The Yellow Tokyo Metro Ginza Line 1000 Series
The train running on the Ginza Line today is called the Tokyo Metro Ginza Line 1000 Series.
This train started running in 2012. It is painted lemon yellow with a red roof.
These colors were inspired by the very first train on the line.
Look at the front! It has two round lights side by side that look just like eyes.
The rounded front was also designed to look like the old train.
In 2013, it won the Blue Ribbon Award, a famous award for trains!
It Is a Subway, but It Runs Above Ground Too
The Ginza Line is a subway, but it comes out above ground around Shibuya Station and near the train depot in Ueno.
At Shibuya, the station is actually on the 3rd floor of a building!
The 2nd and 3rd coloring pages show the Tokyo Metro Ginza Line 1000 Series coming out of the tunnel to run above ground.
Three Coloring Pages
The 1st page shows the Tokyo Metro Ginza Line 1000 Series coming out of a tunnel, seen from the front side. There is no background, so you can focus on coloring the train!
The 2nd page shows the Tokyo Metro Ginza Line 1000 Series running on tracks at the train depot. You can see where the tracks split, and a yellow work vehicle on the left too.

All the pictures are drawn from real photos. You can even see the train number under the front of each car!
Subways in Tokyo
Tokyo has many other subway lines besides the Ginza Line.
Each line has its own color. The Ginza Line is orange, and the Tokyo Metro Tozai Line is light blue.
The signs at the stations use these colors so you can tell them apart easily.
We also have a coloring page for the Yamanote Line, which runs above ground. Try comparing them!
How to Color Tokyo Metro Ginza Line 1000 Series
Two Main Colors: Yellow and Red
Color the train body yellow. Color the roof and the top part of the front red.
If you use a lemon yellow with a little orange in it, it will look just like the real train!
Color the top part of the roof gray or dark brown.
Stripes and Around the Windows
There are orange stripes on the side and front of the train body. Above them are thin white and navy blue lines.
It will look very real if you color around the front window black, and color the window glass light light-blue or light green.
Leave the inside of the lights white, and make the edges gray.
Under the Floor and the Tracks
Color the machines under the train gray or dark gray. Color the rails dark brown or silver.
For the stones on the tracks, color them all gray first. Then layer some darker colors here and there to make them look real easily!
Page 3: Make the Town Colors Lively
Try coloring the river on page 3 blue-green, the bridge white or light gray, and the iron bridge in the back left green.
If you use different colors for the buildings—like white, light brown, and gray—it will look like the busy city of Tokyo!
Here is a secret tip: make the colors around the train a bit light so the yellow train stands out!
Work Vehicle on Page 2
The work vehicle on the left side of page 2 checks and fixes the train tracks.
The real one is yellow. You can color it the same yellow as Tokyo Metro Ginza Line 1000 Series, or use a slightly different yellow to compare them for fun!
