About Odakyu Romancecar

Off to Hakone and Enoshima! The Odakyu Romancecar!

The Odakyu Romancecar is a cool express train. It takes you from a big station called Shinjuku in Tokyo all the way to Hakone, famous for its hot springs, and Enoshima, with its pretty sea! To help you see the great views, some train cars have big windows. Some even have observation seats where the driver's cab is on top, so you can see the whole view ahead! We have Odakyu commuter train coloring pages on a different page.

What makes the Odakyu Romancecar special?

The best thing about the Odakyu Romancecar is its shape! Many cars have a cool, sleek streamlined shape. This cuts down on air drag so the train can run fast. They come in many colors too, like orange, blue, and silver, depending on the type of car.

What types are there?

There are a few types of Odakyu Romancecar running today.

  • GSE: This one features a bright orange color and has observation seats. It stands for "Graceful Super Express," which means an elegant and wonderful express train!
  • MSE: This is a rare blue Odakyu Romancecar that can even run on subway tracks! It stands for "Multi Super Express," which means an express train that can play an active role in many different places.
  • EXEα: This silver train has blue and orange stripes and can carry lots of people. It helps out in many ways, for work trips and travel!
  • EXE: This is the train before it was upgraded into the EXEα. A few EXE trains were not upgraded and are still running today. They are very rare!

In the past, there was a white VSE and a red LSE too! These Odakyu Romancecar trains were super popular with everyone.

What does "Romance" mean?

Long ago, double seats placed next to each other in movie theaters were called "romance seats." That is where the name came from! It means the Odakyu Romancecar is a train built for two people to enjoy a fun and comfortable trip together.

How to Color Odakyu Romancecar

Choose the colors for your Odakyu Romancecar!

Each type of Odakyu Romancecar has its own cool color. You can look at books or photos to find out which Odakyu Romancecar you are coloring. It is so much fun to color it just like the real thing!

  • GSE: The bright orange called "Vermilion Orange" looks super cool. The roof and around the windows are dark gray or black.
  • MSE: The pretty blue color is called "Vermeer Blue". It is a nice deep blue. Around the windows is gray.
  • EXEα: The body is silver (use a light gray to color it). It has blue and orange stripes under the windows.
  • EXE: Try coloring the body a dark pink. You can even mix pink and gray together!
  • Windows: If you color the windows black or dark gray, it looks like the outside world is reflecting in them. Coloring them light blue like the sky is great too.
  • Lights: Color the headlights yellow, white, or orange to make them look like they are shining bright!
  • Wheels and bottom parts: Color these parts with a strong black or dark gray. It makes your train look heavy and strong!

Tips to make it look super cool!

An Odakyu Romancecar looks coolest when it is shiny and fast! Here is how you can color it to look that way.

  • Make it shiny: Color your train first. Then, leave a little bit of white space where the light hits (like the top or the rounded nose). You can also rub it gently with an eraser to make the color lighter. Now it looks shiny!
  • Make it look fast: If you use colored pencils, try drawing long lines from side to side. It will look like it is zooming by!

How to make it look 3D

Show off the smooth curves and flat sides of your Odakyu Romancecar!

  • Shadowy places: Color the bottom of the train, near the wheels, and under the windows with a slightly darker color. You can use a darker shade of the same color, or add a light layer of gray. This makes it pop out like a 3D model!
  • Bright places: Keep the color light or leave it white near the roof and on top of the front part where the light hits.

Let's color the background too!

  • Tracks: Color the stones and wooden ties gray or brown. Shiny silver rails will make it look real!
  • Scenery around: The Odakyu Romancecar travels through cities with big buildings (Shinjuku), past green mountains (Hakone), and near the blue sea (Enoshima). Draw the places you want to visit on your Odakyu Romancecar!
  • Sky: A blue sky with fluffy white clouds makes it feel like a nice day for a ride. An orange sunset sky is very pretty too!

Have fun coloring your way!

Of course, you do not have to use real colors! A rainbow Odakyu Romancecar, a starry Odakyu Romancecar, or an Odakyu Romancecar in your favorite colors will look amazing too! Have fun and color it any way you like!
