The Sotetsu Line is a railway connecting Yokohama Station in Kanagawa Prefecture to Ebina Station and Shonandai Station. Long ago, it was called "Jinchu Railway," and it started out as a way to carry gravel. Recently, it linked up with the JR Line and Tokyu Line, so you can go straight to central Tokyo and Saitama Prefecture without changing trains. It got super convenient! Trains on the Sotetsu Line all use a rich navy blue color called Yokohama Navy Blue. Their cool design really stands out in the city!

Types of Trains on the Sotetsu Line

On the Sotetsu Line, many types of trains run to match their destinations and jobs. Each train has a different face shape and special features inside!

• 12000 Series: This train was made to run onto the JR Line. It has a strong face that looks like a traditional Japanese mask called Shishiguchi.
• 20000 Series & 21000 Series: These trains were made to run onto the Tokyu Line. The 20000 Series has 10 cars, and the 21000 Series has 8 cars. They have a sleek shape so they can fit through subway tunnels.
• 9000 Series & 8000 Series: These trains have been running for a long time, but many have been renewed to look shiny and new! The driver's seat is set a little high, giving them a unique shape.

Jobs of Station Staff and Drivers

A lot of people work hard so everyone can ride the train safely!

• Train Drivers: Their job is to carry many people and keep the train running right on time. They point and check to stay totally focused on looking for signals and anything dangerous on the platform.
• Conductors: They open and close the train doors and make announcements inside the cars. They check for safety on the station platform and give the driver the signal to go. It's a very important job!
• Station Staff: They show you how to buy tickets and help people who need a hand. They always guide you with a smile so you feel safe at the station.
• Track Maintenance Crew: They fix uneven tracks and check them at night when trains are not running. They work hard behind the scenes to protect everyone's safety!

• Car Body Color: The main feature, "Yokohama Navyblue," is not just plain navy blue. It is a slightly deep color. If you lightly layer black or purple over blue, your train will look deep and cool!

• City Scenery: Try making it run in a place with lots of big buildings, like around Yokohama Station. If you color the windows to show buildings reflecting in them, it will look super real!

The hand straps in newer Sotetsu Line trains (like the 20000 series) have a slightly special "egg shape". This is a "universal design" made so people of all different heights can grab them easily at any spot. If you hold one, you will see it fits your hand just right!

Magic Lights That Change Color by Time

The lights inside trains like the 20000 series are set up to change color depending on the time of day. In the morning, they give off a crisp white light to help you wake up. At night, they change to an orange light to help you relax. They adjust automatically so everyone riding can feel their best!

Sonyan, the Sotetsu Line mascot, is actually a new kind of cat living along the Sotetsu Line! Its ears are shaped like trains, and its tail is shaped like the "S" in Sotetsu. Sonyan works hard at events and news updates to bring smiles to everyone!

It Was Actually Great at Carrying Gravel?

When the Sotetsu Line first started, its main job was carrying gravel taken from the Sagami River. That gravel was used a lot to rebuild the cities of Tokyo and Yokohama after the Great Kanto Earthquake. The cities we have today might be all thanks to the old Sotetsu Line!
