About French Bulldog

Cute Squishy Face! French Bulldog!

French Bulldog is a super lovely doggie with big, perky ears and a cute, squishy nose. They also have a sturdy, muscular body and are very popular all around the world. People often call them by the nickname "Frenchie".

Where Did They Come From?

French Bulldog has "French" in their name, so their home is indeed France! But their original ancestors actually lived in England. English Bulldogs from England went over to France, mixed with other dogs, and became the French Bulldog we see today. They became super popular, especially among fashionable people in Paris!

Their Best Feature is Their "Bat Ears"!

The best feature of French Bulldog is definitely their ears! Their big, standing ears with rounded tips are called "bat ears," and they are so cute. They use these ears to listen carefully to their owner's voice.

What Kind of Personality Do They Have?

French Bulldog has a very cheerful and funny personality. They love playing with people and are sweet cuddle-bugs who feel happy just being with their family. Many of them prefer relaxing indoors over running around a lot. Their unique snores and snorts are also a super cute part of French Bulldog!

They Come in Many Coat Colors!

French Bulldog has a few different coat colors.

  • Cream: A soft white color.
  • Fawn: A light brown color.
  • Brindle: Black with a little bit of brown fur mixed in.
  • Pied: A white body with black or fawn patches.

Every single dog has different colors and patterns, so they are all very unique!

How to Color French Bulldog

How to Choose Colors

Color it using your favorite colors for a French Bulldog! Looking at photos or books for ideas is great, too.

  • Body colors: Cream and bright tan (fawn) are popular colors. Trying a dark brindle looks really cool, too. A white body with black or brown spots, called pied, looks super stylish!
  • Face wrinkles: If you trace the wrinkles around the nose with a color a little darker than the body, you can make that cute, scrunched-up face look real!
  • Ears and nose: If you color the inside of the big ears with light pink, it will look just like a real dog. Color the flat little nose with a shiny black!

How to Show Smooth Fur!

A French Bulldog has short, smooth fur.

  • Using colored pencils: Color smoothly along the way the fur grows to make it look nice and sleek. Using crayons: Color evenly and neatly to give it a shiny look!

How to Make It Look 3D: Think About "Shadows" and "Lights"!

Let's make the strong body of the French Bulldog look 3D. The shadowed places are:

  • Under the big chest and near the top of the legs
  • Between the face wrinkles and under the chin
  • Inside the thick legs

If you color these places a little darker, and keep the forehead, back, and big shoulder muscles a bit lighter, your French Bulldog will look strong and awesome!

Decorate the Background!

  • Street corner in Paris: Draw a French Bulldog going for a walk in stylish Paris. Adding the Eiffel Tower or a cool cafe would be lovely!
  • Inside a room: Taking a nap on a fluffy couch or playing with a favorite toy is super cute and fits a French Bulldog so well!

Tips for Enjoying Your Coloring Page!

Color it with your own special colors, thinking, "I want to be friends with a French Bulldog like this!" A French Bulldog with polka dots or heart patterns would be amazing, too! Have fun coloring any way you like!
