About Persian

Proud of Its Fluffy Fur! Persian!

The Persian is called the "King of Cats." It has long, beautiful fur. They are calm and quiet, so people all over the world have loved them for a long time. Their cute, slightly flat faces and big round eyes are so adorable!

Where Did They Come From?

The name Persian comes from the name of an old country. Their home is near the country we call Iran today. They are a cat with a very long history. You can even see them in old paintings!

What Do They Look Like?

Their best feature is definitely their long, fluffy, soft fur! It looks grand, just like a lion's mane. To keep this fur beautiful, they need to be brushed every day. They come in many colors, like white, black, cream, gray, and brown. Their eyes can be many colors too, like blue, green, and copper. They are as pretty as jewels!

What Kind of Personality Do They Have?

Persians are very gentle and love quiet places. They do not meow loudly or run around very often. Instead, they love to sunbathe and relax on their owner's lap. They go at their own pace and love to relax, so just watching them makes you feel happy and calm!

How Do You Live with Them?

If you leave the Persian's long, beautiful fur alone, it can get tangled into mats. So it is important to brush them gently every day to keep them clean. Because their faces are short, people sometimes use raised food bowls to help them eat more easily.

How to Color Persian

How to Choose Colors

Persians come in so many coat colors, so you can color yours any color you like! Coloring with just one color looks lovely, and mixing a few colors to make stripes or a calico pattern is wonderful too.

  • Body color: If you color it white or cream, it will look gentle and elegant. If you color it light gray (blue) or black, it will look cool and grand. Brown (chocolate) and orange (red) are also popular.
  • Eyes: Try coloring the Persian's big eyes with shiny colors. Emerald green, sky blue, or sunset orange (copper) are great choices. When you color around the pupils, leave a little bit of white space to make them look sparkly.
  • Nose and paw pads: If you color them a soft pink, they will look cute. Depending on the coat color, some cats have black or brown noses too.
  • Inside the ears: If you color them a pink that is a little lighter than the body, it will look just like a real cat.

Let's Show the Fluffy Fur!

Let's try to show the Persian's proud long fur on your coloring page.

  • If you color with colored pencils: Color gently without pressing too hard, making lots of short lines over each other to give it a fluffy fur feel. Think about the way the fur flows as you color.
  • If you color with crayons: After you put down the color, rub it gently with a tissue or paper towel to blend it and make it look soft.

How to Make It Look 3D: Think About "Shadows" and "Lights"!

To keep it from looking flat, add some shadows to make it look even more like a real cat. The places that will be in shadow are:

  • Under the chin and under the tummy
  • Between the legs, and where the tail starts
  • Around the face parts (eyes and nose)

In these places, try lightly layering a color that is just a little bit darker than the main color. On the other hand, for places where light hits, like the back or forehead, leave them white or color them softly. This will make them look shiny and give your cat a 3D feel.

Let's Make a Wonderful Background!

Persians love to relax quietly inside a room, so drawing things like these in the background will match nicely.

  • A soft cushion or carpet: Try drawing your favorite colors and patterns. It will make your Persian look even more fancy.
  • By the window: It is fun to draw the view outside or add some curtains. Lightly coloring with yellow or orange to show sunshine looks great too.
  • Toys: Adding a ball of yarn or a cat toy will make your picture feel happy and fun.

Tips for Enjoying Your Coloring Page!

It is totally okay if you do not match the colors of a real Persian! You can make a rainbow Persian or a star-patterned Persian. Use your imagination to finish your very own one-of-a-kind Persian!
