About Reindeer
The Deer of the North That Pulls Santa's Sleigh
Reindeer are a type of big deer that live in cold places near the Arctic Circle. In English, people sometimes call the ones in Eurasia "Reindeer" and the ones in North America "Caribou." They are animals that are very strong against the cold.
What Kind of Traits and Symbol Do They Have?
Reindeer are special animals that stand for winter, travel, and the joy of Christmas.
- A symbol of Christmas: They play an important role pulling Santa Claus's sleigh to deliver presents to children all over the world.
- Patience and strength: They have the strong stamina and patience to keep running for long distances, even in harsh snowy and icy places.
- Family bonds: Reindeer travel in large herds. They are animals that care a lot about their strong bonds with their friends and family.
The Secrets of the Reindeer's Body
Reindeer have amazing traits that help them survive the cold winter and live on top of the snow.
- Antlers: Out of all the deer, Reindeer are the only ones where both males and females have antlers. Their antlers fall off every year and grow back new again.
- Hooves: A Reindeer's hooves are big and wide. They act just like snowshoes so their bodies do not sink into the snow.
- Fur coat: Their fur comes in two layers and can hold a lot of air inside. Because of this, their body heat does not escape even in the snow, keeping them super warm.
How to Color Reindeer
How to Pick Colors: Use Warm Colors of Winter Nature and Fur!
To show the winter nature and the warmth of thick fur, use brown as your main color and add white and gray for accents in your Reindeer coloring page.
- Basic Colors: Pick mostly brown (dark brown, light brown), grayish white (fur, snow), black (hooves, eyes), and red (Christmas decorations).
Colors for Each Part:
- Body: Color the body with light brown or grayish brown as a base. Color the around the neck and under the belly with white or light cream. This makes the fur look warm!
- Antlers: Color the antlers with dark brown or gray to give them a bumpy texture.
- Rudolph's Nose: If you color Rudolph, make his nose a bright red. It will stand out and look cool even in the dark night sky!
How to Make It Look 3D: Fluffy Fur and Strong Antlers!
To show the warm fur and strong 3D shape of the antlers of the Reindeer, think about "shadows" and "lights." Places with shadows:
- Add shadows under the neck, at the top of the legs, and at the base of the antlers where light does not hit. Use a darker brown or gray than your main color. This shows the round body and thick fur!
Places where light hits:
- Color the middle of the back, the tip of the nose, and the surface of the antlers with bright colors or leave them white. This makes them look shiny!
Let's Add Texture!
Colored Pencils: For the fur, draw many short lines on top of each other. This shows a fluffy texture! Antlers: Use dark brown and light brown on the antlers. Color along the lines to make a hard texture like tree branches!
