About Boeing 747 (Jumbo Jet)
King of the Skies! ANA's Boeing 747 (Jumbo Jet)
The Boeing 747 (Jumbo Jet) is a super-huge airplane that was loved by everyone as the "Jumbo Jet" and worked hard all over the world. It had a special shape with two floors in the front, and it looked so cool that you could tell it was a Jumbo right away even from far away! At ANA (All Nippon Airways), it flew through the skies of Japan and the world carrying many people for a long time from 1979 to 2014, making it a true star of the skies.
Types and History of the Boeing 747 (Jumbo Jet)
ANA's Boeing 747 (Jumbo Jet) had several types to match the times and where they flew (routes).
- 747SR (Super Jumbo): This was the first Jumbo that ANA brought in back in 1979. It was built to carry many guests at once and make many trips back and forth between big cities like Tokyo, Osaka, and Fukuoka.
- 747-400 (International Flying Style): This was a super-powerful airplane that could fly far away to countries all over the world in one hop. You can tell it apart by its wingtips that curve a little bit upward (called winglets).
- 747-400D (Japan-Only Flying Style): This was a special Jumbo made just for flying inside Japan. The "D" stands for domestic (inside the country). When it first started flying, it proudly had 569 seats, the most in the whole world (later changed to 565 seats)! It could carry a surprising number of people into the air all at once. On March 31, 2014, it made its final flight, bringing the history of Japanese passenger Boeing 747 (Jumbo Jet) planes to a close.
Secrets of the Boeing 747 (Jumbo Jet)'s Greatness
How could a plane this big and heavy fly safely through the sky? It had a lot of cool ideas!
- 4 Powerful Engines: Usually big airplanes only have 2 engines, but the Boeing 747 (Jumbo Jet) had 2 engines on each wing, making 4 engines in total. With these, it pushed its big body forward with great power, caught a lot of wind under its wings, and floated up into the big sky.
- Lots of Tires: To hold up its body against the strong shock when landing, the Boeing 747 (Jumbo Jet) had 18 tires in total. There were 2 tires in the front and 16 lined up in the back middle to spread out the weight nicely.
- A 2-Story Cabin: The front of the airplane puffed out, and it had stairs inside. Sitting in a seat on the second floor felt like a special secret base, where you could look at the view outside from a window higher than usual!
How to Color Boeing 747 (Jumbo Jet)
How to Choose Colors
When you color the ANA Boeing 747 (Jumbo Jet) coloring page, try using the famous pretty blue colors to make it look cool as it flies through the big sky!
- Airplane colors: ANA airplanes have a bright white body with two kinds of blue lines. These blue colors are called "Triton Blue" and "Mohican Blue." Try coloring the tail wing (the big wing at the back) blue too, and write "ANA" in white letters!
- Engines and tires: If you color the four big engines silver or gray, they will look shiny like real metal. Color the many tires black to make them look strong.
- The rows of windows: The Boeing 747 (Jumbo Jet) has two floors, so the windows at the front are in two rows, one above the other. If you carefully color each small window one by one, it will look just like a real giant airplane!
Let's Show it Flying in the Big Sky!
Try coloring it with lots of energy so it looks like it is about to move right now!
- Light and shadows: Imagine sunlight shining from above! If you color the top of the airplane a little brighter and the bottom with light gray or shadow colors, it will pop out and look big and 3D.
- Engine power: If you add a little light orange or yellow behind the engines to show the air shaking, it will look like it is flying super fast with powerful strength!
Try Creative Backgrounds
Let's color a background or draw extra things. Where is your Boeing 747 (Jumbo Jet) flying? Drawing fluffy white clouds in the blue sky and making the plane zoom between them looks very cool and refreshing. A Boeing 747 (Jumbo Jet) flying in the red sunset sky or the twinkling night sky is wonderful too. It is also awesome to draw the moment it is taking off from the runway at Haneda Airport or Naha Airport!
Tips for Having Fun with Your Coloring Page!
You do not have to use real colors only! Just like the "Pikachu Jumbo," "Flower Jumbo," or "Marine Jumbo" that flew for ANA in the past, you can draw your favorite characters or whales on the airplane. Making your very own one-of-a-kind Boeing 747 (Jumbo Jet) is a fantastic idea too!
Fun Facts About Boeing 747 (Jumbo Jet)
No Winglets! The Secret of Domestic Flights
The Boeing 747 (Jumbo Jet) (747-400) flying international routes has little upward fins at the ends of its wings called "winglets." But the ANA Boeing 747 (Jumbo Jet) just for Japanese domestic flights (747-400D) does not have them! Flights inside Japan are short, and the planes land and take off many times a day. So, these planes were built without winglets from the start to make them a bit lighter and easier to turn in small parking spots at airports.
Over 500 People at Once! The World's First Super Mass Transport
So many people fly between big cities in Japan every single day! That is why Japanese airlines (JAL and ANA) asked Boeing to build special Boeing 747 (Jumbo Jet)s (747SR and 747-400D) that could carry over 500 people at one time. This was a world-first try! When it started, it set a world record by flying with 569 passengers at once. It was a very special Boeing 747 (Jumbo Jet) born just for Japan's skies!
18 Tires to Support the Huge Weight
When a Boeing 747 (Jumbo Jet) is full of people and fuel, the 747-400D weighs nearly 300 tons, and the 747-400 weighs nearly 400 tons! Wow! To support all that huge weight and shock when landing, the Boeing 747 (Jumbo Jet) has 18 tires in total. If you compare that to a car with 4 tires, you can see how many tires it needs to hold itself up on the ground!
