Carrying fuel to where it is needed

The Tank truck is a truck that carries liquid fuel like gasoline, kerosene, and diesel engine oil.
The gas station near your house has a huge tank buried underground. The Tank truck is the truck that delivers fuel there.
It carries hazardous materials that catch fire easily. That is why it has many special rules that normal trucks do not have.

The inside of the tank is divided into rooms

Look at the big round tank in the back. It looks like one big room from the outside, but the inside is actually divided into several parts.
By law, one room must be 4,000 liters or less. The dividers are made of iron plates at least 3.2 millimeters thick.
There are two reasons for this. One is so that different fuels, like gasoline and kerosene, can be carried in one truck.
The other reason is to stop the liquid inside from sloshing around while driving, which could make the truck lose its balance.
You see several round lids lined up on top of the tank because each room has its own opening.

The "Danger" sign is required by law

Have you noticed the square signs with the word "危" (Danger) on the front and back of the truck?
This is not a decoration. It is a sign required by law. The size must be between 0.3 meters and 0.4 meters square. It must have glowing yellow letters on a black background.
This tells nearby cars and firefighters in an emergency right away: "This truck is carrying hazardous materials."
There is also a panel on the back of the tank that shows what it is carrying. It lists the type and amount, such as "Class 4, Class 2 Petroleum, Kerosene."

Fire extinguishers and a ground wire

The Tank truck must carry two or more fire extinguishers. They are filled with powder and weigh at least 3.5 kilograms each. They are kept in red boxes on the side of the truck so they can be taken out quickly.
Also, have you ever seen a thin wire hanging down toward the ground from the back of the truck? This is a ground wire.
It lets static electricity that builds up while driving escape into the ground. A spark from static electricity near gasoline would be very dangerous!

The driver needs two qualifications

To drive a Tank truck, a large truck driver's license is not enough.
A person with a national qualification called a Hazardous Materials Handler must always be on the truck.
Handling gasoline and kerosene requires a category called "Class B, Category 4."
The driver must always carry the certificate for this qualification next to the driver's seat. That shows just how important the job is.

The "危" Sign Has Yellow Text on Black

The coolest part of this coloring page is the "危" signs on the front and back.
On a real Tank truck, they are yellow letters on a black background. If you color inside the square box with a dark black and leave only the character "危" yellow, it will look just like the real thing!
Coloring carefully around the letter is a bit tricky, but getting it right makes the whole picture look super cool.

The Tank Is Silver. Leave Lots of White

The tank part is made of shiny silver stainless steel. So, leaving most of it white is the trick!
Instead, try adding a little light gray just along the top and bottom of the tank. It will make it look like a round cylinder.
Leave the middle white. That makes it look like it is shining bright!

Pick Any Color You Like for the Driver's Cab

Even if the tank is silver, the driver's cab at the front comes in different colors depending on the company. You can see white, blue, red, orange, and many more!
You can choose your favorite color for this part. The more different it is from the silver tank, the clearer your picture will look.
Just make sure to color the fire extinguisher box red. On real ones, it is always red.

Hoses Are Black, Joints Are Silver

In the picture with the work site, the thick hose running from the Tank truck to the ground is a great spot to color.
Color the hose dark gray or black, and the metal joints silver or light blue. That way, you can show the difference between rubber and metal!
Color the triangular sign with a red border and white inside. Make the ground cover gray. Color the worker's helmet white or yellow to make it look like a real work site!

The real name is "Mobile Tank Storage"

Tank truck is the name we usually use.
In a law called the Fire Service Act, it has the serious name of Mobile Tank Storage.
It means a "moving warehouse for dangerous things." So just like a warehouse building, its shape and equipment are decided very carefully.
There is also a limit on how much can go into the tank, up to 30,000 liters in total.

Filling without using a pump

When putting fuel into a gas station, the Tank truck actually does not push it in with a pump most of the time.
The tank of the Tank truck is higher than the underground tank. So just by opening a valve, the fuel flows down by its own weight.
Also, if it flows too fast, static electricity can easily happen, so the rules say to let it flow slowly on purpose.
Reasons like this are hidden behind the work that looks quiet.

The cross-section of the tank is not round

When you look at the tank of the Tank truck from behind, many are not a perfect circle, but a slightly flat oval.
The reason is to keep the car's center of gravity as low as possible. If it were a tall cylinder, it would easily lose its balance on curves.
The top edge of the tank looks square because it has a walkway and handrails so people can stand on it to work.
Every single shape has a reason for safety.
