About White wagtail

A familiar city bird! The White wagtail!

The White wagtail is a bird with black-and-white feathers and a long, thin tail. It is a very familiar bird that you can often see in Japanese cities and near rice fields. It looks super cute wiggling its tail up and down as it walks on the ground!

Where can you find them?

White wagtails live all over Japan. They used to live near water like rivers and lakes. But lately, they live in many different places like parks, fields, and cities. You can often see them looking for food on paved roads and concrete parking lots!

Their bird call

White wagtails make short calls that sound like "Chuchun" or "Chuchu". Sometimes they chirp while flying! They use this call to talk to their friends and show where they are.

How they hunt

White wagtails mostly eat insects. They hop and walk along the ground to look for food.

  • Looking while walking: They look for grasshoppers, flies, and spiders to eat while walking on the ground.
  • Catching while flying: When they see a bug in the air, they can fly up and catch it!

How they fly

White wagtails fly in a light, wavy pattern by moving their wings up and down. They are great at walking on the ground, but they are very good at flying, too!

How to Color White wagtail

How to Choose Colors: Let's Color the Black and White Patterns!

When you color the White wagtail coloring page, the key is to show its black-and-white patterns and cute body. Instead of just coloring everything solid black and white, try thinking about light and shadow! It will look much more real.

  • Body Colors:
    • Black: Color the top of its head and back with black. Mix in a little dark gray to make it look rich and deep.
    • White: Color its belly and face with white. Don't just leave it blank! Color the shadows with light gray or light blue to make it look 3D.
    • There is a black pattern near its neck, so color it carefully!
  • Eye Color:
    • The White wagtail's eyes are round, cute, and black. Add a tiny white dot to look like light shining in its eye. It will look full of life!
  • Beak and Foot Colors:
    • Color its beak and feet with thin lines of black.
  • Background Colors:
    • White wagtail birds live around towns and near water. Try mixing colors like gray roads, concrete, blue, and green to show where your bird lives!

How to Make It Look 3D: Focus on "Shading" and "Shadows"!

The White wagtail has a small, round body. If you use "shading" and "shadows" well, your coloring page will look like it is ready to move!

  • Where to Use Shading:
    • Think about where the light hits its round body. Leave those parts a little lighter.
    • Color the feather patterns with light and dark colors to make them look real!
  • Where to Add Shadows:
    • The space under its neck, the bottom of its belly, and the inside of its legs are in the shade.
    • Add dark gray or black to these spots to make its body look soft and 3D!

Tips for Colored Pencils, Crayons, and Paint!

  • Colored Pencils:
    • Press hard for dark colors and softly for light colors. This makes shading super easy!
    • Layer other colors like black or white over gray to make cool, deep colors.
  • Crayons:
    • Crayons are great for making the feathers look soft and fluffy. You can even smudge the colors with your finger!
  • Paint:
    • Paint the whole body light gray first. Once it dries, paint the feather patterns with dark gray!
