About Alphabet "Q"

The "Q" in "Queen"

"Q" is the 17th letter of the 26 letters in the alphabet.
The word on this coloring page is Queen. It means 女王 (queen) in English.
On the left side, we drew a queen wearing a crown and earrings.
Her puffy sleeves and the round ornament on her chest are wonderful, aren't they?
First, say "queen" out loud, and then let's start coloring!

How to write uppercase "Q" and lowercase "q"

You write uppercase "Q" in 2 strokes.
Stroke ① is just like "O"—draw a big circle going counterclockwise from the top.
Stroke ② is the tail—draw a short diagonal line on the bottom right of the circle.
For the height, it goes from the top line to the third line of the 4 lines.
Lowercase "q" is also 2 strokes: stroke ① is the circle, and stroke ② is the vertical line on the right side.
Bring the vertical line straight down past the third line, all the way to the very bottom 4th line.
The circle and vertical line are on the opposite sides compared to lowercase "p", so be careful not to confuse them!

"U" usually comes right after "Q"

As a letter name, Alphabet "Q" is read as "キュー" (kyoo).
In English, the letter "u" comes right after "Q" almost all the time!
Queen, quilt, quail, quokka—they all start with "qu"!
"Qu" makes a sound like "kw", smoothly blending "k" and "w" together.
Try tracing the first 2 letters of the word for the picture with your finger to check!

Words that start with "Q"

In the middle on the right, there are 3 small pictures of words that start with "Q".
Quilt is a blanket or cloth made by sewing layers of fabric together.
Quail is a bird called ウズラ (uzura), and Quokka is a small animal that lives in Australia.
Words that start with "Q" are fewer than those starting with other letters.
That's why it is exciting when you find one! Try looking for more with someone in your family.

The "Q" in playing cards

On playing cards, there is also a card with "Q" written on it, right?
This "Q" stands for queen, and a picture of a queen is drawn on it.
"J" is Jack, and "K" is King, which means a king!

How to Color Alphabet "Q"

For the big Alphabet "Q", try changing the color of its tail

Color inside the outlines of the big Alphabet "Q" and "q" in the top right with your favorite colors.
For Alphabet "Q", if you match the colors to the stroke-order numbers—like making the circle red and the tail blue—it is easy to see that you write it in 2 strokes.
Since it stands for a queen, coloring it in gold or purple would also look wonderful!

Make the queen look lovely and bright

Color the crown yellow or gold, and make the round jewels red or blue to make it look sparkly!
Color her hair in any color you like, such as brown or yellow.
Her dress can be pink or light blue, and you can color the round decoration on her chest and her earrings like real jewels.
If you color each square of the small quilt in a different color, it will look just like a real quilt!
It looks great if you color the quail brown and the quokka light brown.

Pay attention to the tail and the straight line when tracing

In the bottom right, there are 4 light gray Alphabet "Q"s and "q"s lined up.
Use a pencil to trace them slowly in the correct stroke order.
For the uppercase Alphabet "Q", rest the bottom of the circle on the 3rd line of the 4 lines, and draw the tail slightly below it.
For the lowercase "q", pull the straight line straight down to the 4th line.
After you trace them, try writing them by yourself in the empty space on the right!

Finally, let's read the word

The word "Queen" under the picture on the left has outlines too, so you can color it in.
If you color just the first capital letter in the same color as the big Alphabet "Q" in the top right, you can see how they match!
When you are done coloring, trace the letters with your finger and say "Queen" out loud.
When you connect the picture, the letters, and the sound, it becomes so much easier to remember!
