About Alphabet "E"

"E" is for "Egg"

"E" is the 5th letter of the alphabet.
The word on this coloring page is Egg. It means tamago in Japanese!
On the left side, we drew one big egg.
It has a simple shape, so you can draw patterns or faces on it to make your very own egg.
At the bottom, the word "Egg" is written in outline letters. Try saying "Egg" out loud before you start coloring!

How to write big "E" and small "e"

Capital "E" takes 4 strokes to write.
Stroke ① is a straight down line from top to bottom.
Stroke ② is the top across line, stroke ③ is the middle across line, and stroke ④ is the bottom across line. Draw all of them from left to right.
If you make the middle line a little shorter than the top and bottom lines, your letter will look super neat!
Lowercase "e" takes 1 stroke. Start near the middle with a line going across, curve up, go all the way around counterclockwise, and stop at the bottom right.
Count the 4 lines from top to bottom as 1, 2, 3, and 4. The thick 3rd line is the base line where letters sit.
Capital letters go from line 1 to line 3. Lowercase "e" fits between line 2 and line 3.

The name of "E" and its sound in words

The name of Alphabet "E" is "Eee".
But the "e" in "egg" sounds like the Japanese "Eh".
In English, a letter's name can be different from its sound in a word.
Look at the picture of the Eagle on the right. The "Ea" in Eagle makes the "Eee" sound, just like the letter's name!
It is fun that sounds can change depending on the word.

Other words starting with "E"

In the middle right, you will see 3 small pictures of words starting with "E".
Elephant is a zou (elephant), Eagle is a washi (eagle), and Ear is a mimi (ear).
Elephant starts with the "Eh" sound like egg. Eagle and Ear start with the "Ee" sound.
If someone asks you "Where is your ear?", touch your ear and say "Ear!"
Playing word games with body parts in English is lots of fun, too!

What if you have 2 eggs?

If you have 1 egg, you say egg. But if you have 2 or more, you add an "s" at the end and say eggs.
In English, words often change a little bit when there are 2 or more of something.
Try counting out loud: "one egg, two eggs!"

How to Color Alphabet "E"

For the big "E", write it with 4 colors

The big "E" at the top right has stroke order numbers written in 4 colors: ① red, ② blue, ③ green, and ④ orange.
If you color the standing line and the 3 side lines to match those colors, it is super easy to see the order to write it!
The small "e" is done in 1 stroke, so let's color it with 1 favorite color.

How to color the eggs and tiny pictures

For eggs, chicken eggs are white or light brown.
If you add shadows with light gray or light brown along the edges, they look nice and round!
You can also draw stripes or polka dots with lots of colors, just like Easter eggs.
The elephant looks real in gray! For the eagle, make the body dark brown, the head white, and the beak and feet yellow.
Let's color the ears gently with skin tone.

Keep the side lines straight when you trace

At the bottom right, light gray "E"s and "e"s are lined up, 4 of each.
Trace them slowly with your pencil, following the stroke order.
Put the very bottom side line of "E" right on top of the 3rd dark line.
For "e", don't forget to start writing from the side line!
When you finish tracing, try writing them by yourself in the empty space on the right.

Read the words to finish up

When you finish coloring, try coloring the letters for "Egg" on the left with colors that match your egg.
Point to "E" with your finger and read them in order: "E, Eh, Egg," "Elephant," "Eagle," and "Ear."
It is great to keep your finished coloring page by putting it on the wall or placing it in a folder!
