Alphabet "S" Coloring Pages
About Alphabet "S"
"S" is for "Sun"
"S" is the 19th letter of the 26 alphabet letters.
The word on this Alphabet "S" coloring page is Sun. It means 太陽 (taiyou) in English!
On the left side, we drew a sun with a big round face and a happy smile, with bright rays of light reaching out around it.
It is a picture that makes you feel nice and warm inside.
First, say "Sun" out loud, and then let's start coloring!
"S" and "s" are wiggly 1-stroke letters
You write both uppercase "S" and lowercase "s" in 1 stroke.
For both letters, you start at the top right, curve to the left, change directions in the middle, swell to the right, and go down.
It looks like a snake wiggling its body!
Uppercase "S" goes from the top line to the 3rd line on the 4-line guide.
Lowercase "s" has the same shape, but it is a small letter that fits between the 2nd and 3rd lines.
If you make the top loop a little smaller and the bottom loop a little bigger, it will look nice and sturdy!
The "S" sound is a snake's "Sss"
As a letter name, "S" is read as "Es".
Inside words, it makes a quiet "Sss" breath sound.
Gently close your teeth and blow air through the gap. It sounds just like a snake going "Sss"!
Unlike the Japanese "su", the trick is not to make an "oo" sound at the end.
Try saying sun, star, snake, and strawberry while holding out that first "Sss" sound!
Words that start with "S"
In the middle on the right, there are 3 small pictures of words that start with Alphabet "S".
Star means 星 (hoshi), Snake means ヘビ (hebi), and Strawberry means いちご (ichigo).
The snake picture is curled up and sticking its tongue out!
We have all kinds of friends here: things in the sky, animals, and food.
Can you think of other things in the sky or foods that start with Alphabet "S"?
"S" at the end of words
Alphabet "S" pops up a lot at the end of words, not just at the start!
In English, when you talk about 2 or more things, you often add an "s" to the end of the word.
If there is 1 star, it is a star, but if there are many, it becomes stars!
How to Color Alphabet "S"
Color the big "S" with a gradient
Color inside the outlines of the big "S" and "s" at the top right with your favorite colors.
Start from the top right and follow the stroke order arrows as you color. This will help you understand how to write the letter.
If you change the color little by little, like yellow at the top, orange in the middle, and red at the bottom, it will look like the sun!
Colors for the sun and tiny pictures
Try coloring the sun's face yellow, and its rays orange or red.
If you color the rays one by one, switching between yellow and orange, they will look bright and shiny!
Give the sun sweet pink cheeks to make its face look even cuter.
For the tiny pictures, color the star yellow. You can color the snake green or yellow-green, and even add patterns.
Color the strawberry's body red, the stem green, and the tiny seeds yellow.
Trace smoothly around the curves
At the bottom right, there are 4 light gray "S"s and "s"s lined up.
Use a pencil to trace them slowly from the top right. Try not to stop along the way!
Here is a trick: smoothly land your stroke right on the 3rd line of the 4 lines to finish.
Be careful which way you start so you do not write the letter backward like a mirror image.
After you trace them, try writing your own in the empty space on the right!
Finally, read the word out loud
You can also color the word "Sun" under the picture on the left, because it has outlines too.
If you make just the first capital letter the same color as the big letter at the top right, you can see how they match!
When you finish coloring, trace the letters with your finger and read it out loud: "Sun!"
Connecting the picture, the word, and the sound will help you remember it much better!
