Yui Rail is a "monorail" that runs through Naha City in Okinawa Prefecture. It runs on high tracks above the roads, so it looks like it is on a sky adventure. Its shiny body glistening in the Okinawan sun is super cool!

What does "Yui Rail" mean?

The word "Yui" comes from the Okinawan phrase "Yuimaaru." "Yuimaaru" means helping and working together with everyone. Everyone in Okinawa supports this monorail, and Yui Rail connects people with each other!

Where does it run?

Yui Rail connects Naha Airport to Tedako-Uranishi Station in Urasoe City, passing right through central Naha. There are 19 stations in total. It is the southernmost train line in Japan, so many people who travel here love to ride it.

What kind of view can you see?

Because it runs high up, the view from the window is amazing! You can see the streets of Naha, and sometimes even the sparkling blue sea far away. It also passes near the World Heritage site, Shuri Castle, so you can enjoy Okinawa's history while riding.

The train cars of Yui Rail

The cars of Yui Rail are mostly silver, with blue stripes for Okinawa's sky and sea, and red stripes for the burning sun. Recently, new 3-car trains with one extra car have started running so they can carry even more people.

When did it start running?

Yui Rail started running in 2003. At first, it ran from Naha Airport Station to Shuri Station. Then in 2019, the tracks grew all the way to Tedako-Uranishi Station so more people could use it, making it even more helpful!

How to choose your colors

When you color the Yui Rail coloring page, try to picture Okinawa's bright sun and blue sky!

• Body color: Try using silver or light gray for the main body. If you layer white crayon or colored pencil on top, you can make it look shiny!
• Line colors: To make it look just like Yui Rail, color the lines on the body with red like the Okinawa sun, blue like the sea and sky, or black like the roof tiles of Shuri Castle!
• Window color: Try coloring the windows light blue or pale blue to show the view outside. Drawing people riding inside is super fun, too!

• If you color a little darker around the tires and rails, you can make it look powerful and moving.

How to color and make it look 3D: Think about "light" and "shadows"!

If you imagine where the sunlight is coming from while you color, it will look like the real thing!

• Where the light hits: If you leave it white or use light colors on the roof and the rounded parts of the car body, it will look like it is shining in the sun!
• Where the shadows fall: If you layer a slightly darker color or gray under the car body, under the windows, and between the cars, it will look like a shadow and make it pop out!
