About Scottish Fold
A relaxed friend with a round face! Scottish Fold!
The Scottish Fold is a super cute cat with small ears that fold forward, a round face, and big, round eyes. Because of how they look, people sometimes say they look like "owls" or "teddy bears." They are relaxed and love people.
Where are they from?
Just like the name says, the home of the Scottish Fold is Scotland in the UK. In 1961, a white baby cat was born on a farm with ears that folded naturally. That kitten was the very first Scottish Fold. They are a pretty new breed of cat!
Folded ears are their main feature!
The biggest feature of the Scottish Fold is their "folded ears." But actually, all of them are born with straight ears! After about 3 weeks, some kittens' ears start to fold. Of course, some Scottish Fold cats keep their straight ears, and they are called "straight-eared (Scottish Straight)."
What are they like?
They are very calm and gentle. They do not meow or run around much, and they love to spend quiet time right next to you. They are sweet and friendly, so they get along great with kids, older people, and other pets. Sometimes they sit with their back legs stretched out in front like a human! This silly way of sitting is called the "Fold sit," and it is super cute.
A round body
It is not just their face—their whole body is nice and round! They have short necks and legs, and their chubby body makes them look even cuter. They can have short hair or long hair. They come in so many colors, like white, black, stripes, and calico!
How to Color Scottish Fold
How to Choose Colors
Scottish Fold cats come in many different fur colors. Feel free to use any colors you like to create your dream cat!
- Cream or Light Brown: This gives a soft, warm, and gentle look. It is the most popular color!
- Solid White or Black: It is simple, but looks very stylish.
- Stripes (Tabby): Drawing brown or gray stripes makes your cat look playful and full of energy.
- Calico: Using three colors—white, brown, and black—to color your own pattern is super fun too.
- Eyes: Try coloring them with bright colors like jewels, such as blue, green, or gold (copper). If you color around the edges of the eyes a little darker, their big, round eyes will look even cuter.
- Nose and Paw Pads: Color them in a cute pink!
Make It Look Round and Fluffy!
The best thing about the Scottish Fold is how round it is!
- If you use colored pencils: Color in light, soft circles along the lines. This shows off their soft fur and round body. The trick is to not press too hard!
- If you use crayons: After coloring the whole cat, rub the paper gently with your finger or a tissue. The colors will blend together to look soft and fluffy.
How to Make It Look 3D: Think About Light and Shadows!
To make the round face and body pop out, try adding some shadows. Good spots for shadows are:
- Under the folded ears
- Under the chin and under the belly
- Where the legs overlap each other
- The bottom part of the round cheeks
If you layer a slightly darker color softly in these spots, your cat will look nice and chubby, making it even cuter! For spots where the light hits—like the forehead or the middle of the back—color them lightly or leave them white.
Make the Background Cute Too!
Scottish Fold cats love relaxing inside the house. Here are some great things to draw in the background!
- A Soft Sofa or Cushion: Draw your favorite patterns to make a cozy sofa for your cat.
- A Favorite Ball of Yarn: Roll colorful balls of yarn across the floor.
- By the Window: Color a light yellow or orange to make warm sunlight shine through the window.
