Where does Horse live?
Horse and its relatives live in plains and pastures all over the world. Long ago, they ran around big grasslands in herds. Today, many horses live with humans on ranches and farms. But in places like America and Mongolia, you can still see herds of wild horses! In Japan, too, you can see wild horses called Misaki horses at Cape Toi in Miyazaki Prefecture.
What does Horse eat?
Horse eats grass, pasture grass, and hay. It uses its big mouth to munch on grass. Horse also loves carrots and apples given by humans!
What kinds of Horse are there?
Horse is grouped by body size and what it does best!
- Riding horses: Like the Thoroughbred, these horses are great at running fast and do amazing in horse races! Their bodies are slim and cool.
- Work horses: Like the Percheron, these horses have big, strong bodies! They are great at carrying heavy things.
- Ponies: Like the Shetland Pony, these horses are small and easy for children to ride! They are super cute.
Horse's legs are amazing!
The ends of Horse's legs are covered with hard "hooves". These hooves are very important for kicking off the ground and running with full power. Just like you wear shoes, Horse sometimes gets metal shoes called "horseshoes" to protect its hooves!
A friend with a long history!
Horse and humans have been together for a very long time. People think it started about 5,000 years ago! Long ago, humans got help from Horse to ride to far places, plow fields, deliver letters, and fight in battles. Without Horse, today's world might be totally different!

How to Choose Colors
The hair color of a Horse (called its coat color) comes in so many types! Pick your favorite colors and start coloring!
- Brown Friends: There are chestnut (bright brown), bay (dark brown or deep brown), and black (almost completely black).
- Other Colors: There are also gray (whitish gray) and white (pure white).
- Mane and Tail: Making the mane and tail the same color as the body, a bit darker (like black), or a contrasting color (like white) looks super cool!
- Hooves: Color them black or dark gray, or white or cream.
- Eyes: Coloring kind eyes with dark brown or black will look wonderful!
How to Paint the Texture of Fur
A Horse has lots of short hairs on its body. If you use colored pencils or crayons to overlap short lines, it will feel just like real fur!
- Rounded Body: If you put bright colors on the rounded parts and dark colors (shadows) on the hollow parts and inner legs, it will look 3D!
- Legs: Legs run fast and strong! If you color along the muscle lines, you can show their strength.
- Where the Light Hits: Leave the shiny light parts a little lighter, like on the back or rounded bottom, or leave some white space to make it look shiny!
