About Copen

Feel the Blue Sky and Wind in a Tiny Convertible! Copen

Copen is a mini sports car made by Daihatsu. Its coolest feature is that the roof opens up to turn it into a convertible! Even though it is small, it is packed full of sports car fun. Driving under the bright blue sky while feeling the breeze is so refreshing and fun.

Different Types of Copen

There are several types of Copen. Some have cute round lights, while others look sharp and cool! Each type has its own model code, which is like a special car name.

  • First-Generation Copen (L880K): The very first Copen that came out in 2002. It has round lights and a rounded, bowl-like shape. It is still super popular today!
  • Copen Robe (LA400K): This is the standard style for the current Copen. It has sharp headlights and a cool, sleek design.
  • Copen XPLAY (LA400K): This Copen has a powerful design with bold black parts around the wheels. It looks tough and cool!
  • Copen Cero (LA400K): It works just like the Robe inside, but it has cute round lights like the first Copen. It has a nice retro and gentle look.
  • Copen GR SPORT (LA400K/LA400A): This special Copen was built together with Toyota's racing team, "GAZOO Racing," to make it super fast and fun to drive. It has a great sporty look!

Awesome Things About Copen

Copen has special tricks that no other mini cars have!

  • Active Top: If you unlock the driver's seat and press a button, the roof moves automatically all by itself! In just 20 seconds, a regular car transforms into a convertible! Watching it move like a transforming robot is super exciting for kids and adults. Driving under the blue sky feels amazing!
  • Changeable Body: The current Copen models (Robe, XPLAY, and Cero) can actually have their outer body panels taken off and swapped for a different design! You can change its look just like changing your clothes, saying, "Cool style today, cute style next month!" It is an amazing technology that only Copen has in the whole world.
  • Fun to Drive: Copen sits very low to the ground, so you sit close to the road when driving. Because of this, driving it feels snappy and quick, just like riding a go-kart at an amusement park! It is built with a super strong frame called the "D-Frame," so it can drive strong and safe even when the roof is open!

How to Color Copen

How to Choose Colors

Copen is a car that is most fun to color in your very favorite colors! Try finding stylish or cool colors.

  • Body Color: Bright colors look great on Copen. For the first Copen, Dark Green Mica (green) and Bright Silver Metallic (silver) are popular. For today's Copen, Tonico Orange Metallic (orange), Matador Red Pearl (red), and Jaune Yellow (yellow) are popular. Of course, it is totally okay to use any color you like!
  • Roof: When the roof is closed, you can make it the same color as the body. Making it black to create a two-tone look is super stylish, too. Drawing a carbon-style pattern on it looks really cool, too.
  • Interior (Seats): When the picture shows the roof open, you can see the seats inside. Making the seats beige (light brown) or red makes it look like a fancy sports car.
  • Lights: If you are coloring Cero or the first Copen, color the cute round lights. If it is Robe, make the sharp lights shine!

Tips for a Convertible Vibe

To give it that true Copen feel, try adding cool light and scenery effects.

  • Shiny Look: Copen has a lot of rounded designs. If you leave the parts where light hits white and color the areas around them darker, your car will look shiny and polished!
  • Windy Background: When Copen is driving with the roof open, draw swooshy lines behind it. You can also draw trees and clouds moving backward to show speed. Setting your background on a road by the ocean or a green mountain road is wonderful, too.

Customize Freely!

Copen is a car that is fun to turn into "your very own car." Put black stripes on the hood or draw stickers on the doors to finish your very own original Copen!

Fun Facts About Copen

Just Like a Dress-Up Doll! "Dress Formation"

For the second-generation Copen, you can swap out the outer parts between Cero and Robe! This is called "Dress Formation."
"Should I go with Cero today?" "What kind of Robe should I pick tomorrow?" You can change your car's design just like changing your clothes! It is a super special car that you rarely see anywhere else in the world.

The Secret Behind the Name

The name "Copen" comes from two words put together: "Compact" (small) and "Open" (a roof that opens up). It really means "a small open-top car!"

It's a Small Car, but It's a Sports Car!

People often think that small Japanese cars are slow, but Copen is different! It has a powerful turbo engine. Small cars have a limit of 64 horsepower, and Copen uses every single bit of that 64 horsepower! Plus, its body is built super strong, so it can zip around curves easily. Even though it is small, Copen is a real sports car!
