The S2000 is a special 2-seater open-top sports car made by Honda to celebrate its 50th anniversary. You can open the roof, feel the wind, and drive just like a racing car! With a "front mid-engine" design that puts the engine closer to the middle of the body, and a special frame structure, you can drive through curvy roads just the way you want. The "S" is a special name passed down through Honda's traditional sports cars.

Past models and how it grew

The S2000 was made for 10 years, from 1999 to 2009, and its inside and look got better step by step. There are different models with different engine sizes and driving feelings.

• Early Model (AP1, 2.0L): The first model that came out in 1999. Its main feature is an engine that revs super high up to 9,000 RPM, just like a racing car!
• Type V: A model that came out in 2000. It had "VGS," the world's first system that changes how much the steering wheel turns based on your speed.
• Late Model (AP2, 2.2L): A model that came out in 2005. The engine size grew to 2.2L, making it easier to drive with strong power even at lower engine speeds.
• Type S: The final model from 2007, made for the best driving experience. It has special aero parts that keep the car steady even when driving fast.

The S2000 is packed with technology to make it drive fast and safe like a real sports car.

• Super High-Rev VTEC Engine: The built-in F20C engine is an amazing engine that gave 250 horsepower, which was world-class for a 2.0L regular engine back then!
• High X-Bone Frame: It uses a strong "X" shaped frame at the bottom of the car. Even without a roof, it is just as strong and sturdy as a sports car with a roof.
• 6-Speed Manual Transmission: It uses a special 6-speed manual gear where you shift gears with your own hand and feet, giving you a smooth and nice feeling when you shift.
• Digital Meter: In the driver's seat, there is a cool, modern orange digital meter like a formula car!

Feel the open air

The best part of the S2000 is the electric soft top (a cloth roof) that you can open and close easily with a switch. If you open the roof under the big sky, you can enjoy the wind and engine sounds with your whole body! Also, a removable metal hardtop was available, too.

How to Choose Your Colors

It revs up to 9,000 RPM! A legendary high-revving engine

The engine in the early S2000 was super special because its tachometer could rev all the way up to 9,000 RPM! It made 125 horsepower per liter, which was world-class for a standard engine back then. It roared down the road with a high-pitched sound just like a real racing car!

No roof, but super strong! The "High X-Bone Frame"

Normal cars get their strength from having a roof, but the convertible S2000 doesn't have one! Instead, it uses a special "High X-Bone Frame." This made it just as strong and tough as a serious sports car with a roof!

Honda's first FR (rear-wheel drive) sports car in 29 years!

Honda is great at making "FF" cars that pull themselves with the front wheels. But S2000 uses "FR (rear-wheel drive)," which sends power to the back wheels! It was Honda's first time making an FR sports car in 29 years, since the legendary "S800" car!

It used a red "ENGINE START" button!

Pressing a button to start a car is normal now, but when S2000 came out in 1999, turning a key was the usual way. S2000 was the first Japanese car to use a push-button start system! Car fans loved the cool setup: you put the key in, turn it to "ON," and then press the red "ENGINE START" button next to the steering wheel to start it up!
