About Lion
King of Beasts! Lion!
Lion is called the "King of Beasts," and it is a super strong and cool animal. Males have a big feature: thick, fluffy hair called a mane. They live in groups and are known for hunting together with their friends. Their big bodies and powerful roars will make your heart beat fast just watching them!
Where Do They Live?
Lion lives mostly in the savannas and grasslands of Africa. In places with lots of grass, they look for food and rest in the shade. They live in groups called a "pride." One pride has several females, their babies, and a few males.
An Animal That Loves Family
Lion cares a lot about its family. In a pride, males protect their home, and females work together to hunt. Everyone helps raise the babies, and they help each other if a lion is weak. After having babies, a female leaves the pride for a little while to raise them, but comes back to everyone when they get bigger.
How They Hunt
Lion can hunt animals that are bigger than itself. The females work together to chase their target, and when it gets tired, they pounce all at once! Males do not hunt very often, but they get to eat first after the food is caught.
Differences Between Males and Females
It is super easy to tell male and female Lion apart.
- Male: It has fluffy hair around its head called a mane. This mane grows bigger as Lion grows up. Its body is larger and stronger than the female.
- Female: It does not have a mane. Its body is smaller than the male, and it moves fast. It is great at hunting and gets almost all the food for the pride.
How Long They Live and How Big They Are
In the wild, Lion lives for about 10 to 14 years. Some live even longer in zoos. A male weighs about 200 kilograms, which is much heavier than a person! Females are a little lighter than males.
How to Color Lion
How to Choose Colors: Make a Powerful Mane!
When coloring Lion, the main goal is to show off the male's mane and strong body! Use yellow and brown, and try adding bright spots and shadows. That will make your coloring page look even more real!
- Body Colors:
- Color the main part with light yellow or light brown. Lion fur is short and a bit rough. Try drawing lots of short lines with the tip of your colored pencil to show the texture of the fur!
- Leave the back and top of the legs a bit white or light yellow where the light hits.
- Add dark brown or deep brown to the bottom of the tummy and inside of the legs where shadows fall. This makes the body pop out and look 3D!
- Mane Colors:
- The male Lion mane has many colors like yellow, brown, and dark brown. Follow the direction of the fur and draw lots of thin lines to make it look big and fluffy!
- Use dark colors near the roots and light colors at the tips to make it look even more 3D.
- Eye Colors:
- Lion eyes are sharp and cool! Color them a bit big with brown or gold. Add a little white dot for light, and the eyes will look bright and alive!
- Background Colors:
- Lion lives in the African savanna. You can show the huge grassy field by mixing yellow, brown, and green!
- It is also fun to add a glowing sunset or big trees.
How to Make It Look 3D: Think About Dark and Light Spots and Shadows!
Lion has a strong, muscular body. If you use dark and light colors and shadows well, your coloring page will look super lively!
- Where to Use Light Colors:
- Imagine where the light hits the bumpy muscles, and leave those spots a bit lighter.
- Draw short lines for the fur to make it feel nice and rough.
- Where to Put Shadows:
- The neck under the mane, the bottom of the tummy, and the inside of the legs are in the shade.
- Use dark brown or black in these spots to make the body look 3D and rounded!
Tips for Pencils, Crayons, and Paints!
- Colored Pencils:
- Press hard for dark colors and softly for light colors. This makes it easy to show shade!
- Layer other colors like black or white over yellow and brown to make deep colors.
- Crayons:
- Crayons are great for making a rough fur feel! You can also rub with your finger to blend the colors.
- Paints:
- Mix a little water with brown paint to make light brown. Try painting that on the bright spots! Once it dries, paint dark brown on top to give it a deep look.
