About Christmas tree

The Tree We Decorate for Christmas

A Christmas tree is an evergreen tree, like a fir tree, that you decorate for Christmas.
You put a star on top and decorate it with round ball ornaments, bells, ribbons, candy canes, and shiny twinkling lights.
Some families leave Christmas presents under the tree, too!

A Tree That Stays Green All Year

For a Christmas tree, people often use a fir tree because its leaves stay green even in winter.
Since it stays lively during the cold winter, people thought of it as a sign of strong life and long living.
In Japan, many families decorate artificial trees made of plastic, not just real ones.

Secrets of the Decorations

The star on top stands for the Star of Bethlehem, which is said to have told people that Jesus Christ was born.
It is said that round ornaments first started from decorating with apples.
Each decoration has a fun meaning, like cane-shaped candy canes, bells, and ribbons.

Decorating with Your Family

Decorating a Christmas tree is a fun event you can do with your whole family.
If you talk about which decoration goes where while you set it up, you can make your very own tree.
It is so much fun to put the star on top at the very end!

The Secret of the Tree Shape

A Christmas tree has a triangle shape that is wide at the bottom and thin at the top.
Fir trees naturally grow in this shape.
When you do your coloring page, look at how the shape gets thinner as it goes up, and try counting the decorations!

Have Fun with Tree Decorations

It is also fun to draw and add your own decoration ideas onto the Christmas tree on the coloring page.
Try adding ornaments shaped like your favorite animals or foods!

There are 3 coloring pages.

The 2nd coloring page shows a family of four decorating a Christmas tree, where a boy is being held by his dad while he puts the star on top.
The 3rd coloring page is a detailed coloring page of a very big Christmas tree in a town square at night.
We also have Christmas coloring pages, so try coloring them together!

How to Color Christmas tree

Color the Christmas tree with shades of green

Color the leaves of the Christmas tree green.
If you use dark green at the bottom and bright green at the top, your Christmas tree will look 3D.
It is also a great idea to color just the jagged edges a little darker.

Make the ornaments colorful

Try coloring the round ornaments with lots of different colors, like red, gold, blue, and silver.
If you leave a small white circle near the top corner of a ball, it will look shiny.
If you make the candy canes with red and white stripes, they will look real.

Color the star and bells gold

Color the star on top and the bells with yellow or gold.
If you color a big area of light yellow around the star, it will look like it is glowing.

The room and the night town

For the room in the second coloring page, if you color the walls cream and the curtains light red, it will look like a cozy Christmas room.
Leave the snow outside the window white.
For the night sky in the third coloring page, color it dark blue. If you color the building windows and streetlights with orange or yellow, the Christmas tree will look bright and shiny.
Try coloring the people's clothes with Christmas colors like red, green, and white.

Present boxes

For the present boxes under the Christmas tree, color the boxes and ribbons with different colors to make them look fun and cheerful.
For boxes with polka dots or stripes, try coloring just the patterns with a different color.
If you make the ribbons gold or red, they will look great with the Christmas tree.
