A Minivan That Can Drive on Mountains and Snow

The Mitsubishi Delica is a minivan made by Mitsubishi Motors.
A minivan is a tall car with lots of room inside, so many people can ride together.
What makes the Mitsubishi Delica special is that it is a minivan, but it has the power of an SUV.
It uses 4WD to power all four tires. That means it can drive easily on gravel, snow, and bumpy mountain roads.
Families who love camping and going to snowy mountains have loved this car for a long time!

The Secret Behind the Name

The name "Delica" comes from combining the English words "delivery" and "car."
Delivery means to carry or bring things, and car means an automobile.
Actually, the very first Mitsubishi Delica born in 1968 was a truck for carrying cargo!
The "5" in today's Mitsubishi Delica D:5 means it is the 5th generation of the Mitsubishi Delica.

The Secret of 4WD

Regular cars usually move using only two tires, either in the front or the back.
A 4WD car pushes off the ground with all four tires, so it can drive strong even on slippery roads.
In 1982, the Mitsubishi Delica became the first boxy Japanese car to feature 4WD.
In the 2026 update, it got a special system called S-AWC. This system controls all four tires smartly. It was created through sports cars like the Lancer Evolution, a famous Mitsubishi car in rally racing!

Generations of the Mitsubishi Delica

The Delica Star Wagon was made for carrying people.
When the Star Wagon was renewed in 1986, its 4WD made it super popular with people who loved going to mountains and rivers.
The Delica Space Gear came out in 1994.
It was based on the Pajero, a Mitsubishi SUV, and its engine was placed in the front.
The Mitsubishi Delica D:5 appeared in 2007 and is still being made today.
In 2019, its front look changed a lot! It got tall vertical lights and a big front grille for a cool, sharp face.
At that time, a fancy version called Urban Gear also came out, perfect for city driving.
Then, with the update announced in December 2025 and sold in January 2026, it got another brand-new face.
With this update, the Urban Gear and the "M" version were retired.

These 6 coloring pages show you the history of the Mitsubishi Delica.
Page 1 shows the Star Wagon. It has a thick pipe grille guard on the front with two round lights on top.
Check out the side mirrors sticking out from the hood and the steps under the doors, too!
Page 2 is the Space Gear. You can see side steps under the doors and mudflaps behind the tires.
It also has cool wind-like lines on the side.
Page 3 is the 2007 Mitsubishi Delica D:5. The best parts are the grille with vertical lines and the mesh grille below it.
Page 4 shows the 2019 Mitsubishi Delica D:5. It got a big face with tall lights and many horizontal lines on the grille.
Page 5 shows the Urban Gear. Its grille has thick horizontal lines, and the front bumper is lower and bigger.
Page 6 shows the updated 2026 Mitsubishi Delica D:5. It has a grille made of stacked bars, and zigzag patterns under the bumper.
The areas around the tires also have thick borders.

Try Copying the Real Colors

The model car for the 1st page is a Star Wagon with two colors: dark green on top and silver on the bottom.
The Space Gear on the 2nd page is silver with a line along the side that looks like gold.
The Mitsubishi Delica D:5 on pages 3 to 5 is white. The 6th page shows a gray car with a black roof.
This car looks great in the great outdoors, so coloring it in brown or green is fun, too!

Let's Color the Two-Tone Car Body

For the Star Wagon, use the line on the side of the car body as a border, and color the top and bottom in different colors to make it look cool!
So you do not go over the line, carefully color around the line first, then color the big open areas.
For a white car, leave most of it white and just color the bottom of the car in light gray. This will make it look 3D!

The Grille and Bumper

A fun thing about the Mitsubishi Delica is how its face changes with each generation!
On the 3rd page, color the gaps in the mesh grille in dark gray to make it pop.
For the wide grilles on the 4th and 5th pages, color them in silver or gray, and leave a few spots white to make them look shiny.
On the 6th page, color the pattern under the bumper in black or dark gray to give it a tough face ready for mountain roads!

The Lights and Grille Guard

For the headlights, leave the inside white and color just the edges in light gray.
For the grille guard on the 1st page, color it in silver or black to make it look real.
It is also fun to color the glass part of the round lights on the guard in light yellow!

The Tires and Wheels

Color the tires in dark gray or black.
You can clearly see the grooves for bumpy roads on the tires on the 1st and 2nd pages. Color the grooves a little darker to make them look strong!
The wheels are usually silver, but making the wheels look blackish on the 6th page looks cool, too!

It Was a Truck at First

The very first Mitsubishi Delica was a small truck made to carry loads, born in 1968.
After that, a wagon for carrying people was made, too. It became a car for going out with family and friends.
More than 1.38 million Mitsubishi Delica cars have been sold in total since the first model!

The First Boxy Car with 4WD

In 1982, the Mitsubishi Delica Star Wagon became the first boxy car in Japan to offer 4WD.
Back then, going to play in the mountains and rivers was very popular in Japan, so the Mitsubishi Delica became super popular because it could go anywhere.
Along with Mitsubishi's Pajero SUV, it is called a pioneer of 4WD passenger cars.

The Mitsubishi Delica D:5 went on sale in January 2007, and it is still being made now in 2026!
It is rare for one single generation of a car to be made for this long.

The updated D:5 in 2026 has 4 modes so you can choose how it drives to match the road.
There is a mode for normal roads, one for saving fuel, one for gravel roads, and one for snowy roads.
It even has a feature that keeps the car at a steady speed when going downhill.
