History: From Vitz to Yaris

• 1st Generation Yaris / Vitz (1999–): It all started here. A Greek designer created its round, adorable shape. With its fresh design and high quality, it was called the "new basic standard for 21st-century compact cars." • 3rd Generation Yaris / Vitz (2010–): Its look changed completely to a sharp, cool face! In this generation, a "hybrid" type that runs on both gas and electricity made its debut. It could drive quietly without using much gas. Models made for fast driving like the "G’s" and "GR" also came out, exciting car fans everywhere!
• 4th Generation Yaris / Vitz (2020–): Its name in Japan was changed to "Yaris" to match the rest of the world. While carrying on the history of Yaris / Vitz, it was reborn as a brand-new car on the inside. It uses even less gas, connects to smartphones, and can brake automatically when it senses danger. It is packed with the newest technology!

Making History in the World of Racing

Yaris / Vitz is not just for driving around town. Amazing technology was poured into it to win the World Rally Championship (WRC), a race on bumpy roads and snow all over the world. Was it called "Yaris / Vitz" around the world from the start?

In Japan, it was called "Vitz" for over 20 years. But in other countries, it was actually called "Yaris / Vitz" right from the beginning! When a new model came out in 2020, Japan switched to using the name "Yaris / Vitz" too.

The designer is Greek

A Greek designer named Sotiris Kovos came up with the cute shape of the very first Yaris / Vitz. It is a Japanese car, but it blends in European style. That is why people all over the world love its stylish look!

The super strong "GR Yaris / Vitz"

A regular Yaris / Vitz has 5 doors, but the "GR Yaris / Vitz" built for racing has only 3 doors (left, right, and back). It also uses a light, strong material called "carbon" on the roof. They might look similar, but they are totally different inside!
