About Serena
A Minivan for the Whole Family
Serena is a minivan made by Nissan.
A minivan is a tall car with lots of space inside, so many people can ride in it together.
Serena has three rows of seats and can carry 7 or 8 people.
The back doors are sliding doors that open by sliding to the side, which makes it easy for you to get in and out even in tight parking spaces.
The first generation came out in 1991, and today the 6th generation is being made.
It is a very popular minivan for families in Japan that has been a top seller many times!
The Secret Behind the Name
The name "Serena" comes from a word in Spanish.
It means "clear and bright" or "calm."
You can really feel the wish for you and your family to enjoy relaxing, wonderful trips together!
When the first model came out, it was named "Vannette Serena." It became just "Serena" starting in 1994.
Drive on Electricity with e-POWER and Get Driving Help from ProPILOT
In today's Serena, there is a model with a system called e-POWER.
The gas engine only runs to make electricity, and that electricity powers a motor to turn the tires.
That is why it can drive smoothly and quietly, just like an electric car!
Also, starting with the 5th generation, it comes with ProPILOT, a system that helps you steer and brake on the highway.
The top grade of the 6th generation, called the LUXION, features ProPILOT 2.0.
When driving in the same lane on a highway, you can take your hands off the steering wheel if the right conditions are met! This was a first for a minivan.
The 6 Generations of Serena
The 1st generation appeared in 1991. It had a rare design with the engine placed under the front seats.
The 2nd generation arrived in 1999, and the engine moved into the front hood of the car.
The 3rd generation came out in 2005, and the 4th generation in 2010.
The 4th generation became the best-selling minivan of the year for three straight years starting in 2011!
The 5th generation appeared in 2016 and brought ProPILOT with it. In 2018, the e-POWER model joined the lineup.
The 6th generation arrived in 2022.
In December 2025, an update with a fresh new front look was announced, and it went on sale in February 2026.
At this time, a new model called the AUTECH LINE, based on the Highway STAR V, joined the family too.

How to Color Serena
Try copying the real colors
The cars used as models have these colors: the 1st generation is blue, the 2nd is silver, the 3rd is white, the 4th is blue, and the 5th is black.
The 6th generation Highway Star is a 2-tone car with a white body and a black roof, and the AUTECH line is white.
The 1st generation is a 2-tone car with gray on the bottom part of the body. Try coloring from the bumper down in gray.
New blue and greenish colors like Moonbow Blue and Aqua Mint were added to the updated Serena, too!
How to color the big body
Serena is tall, and when you look at it from the side, it has many flat, wide spots.
For wide spots, move your colored pencil in the same direction to color smoothly without spots.
For a white car, you can use the white paper! Color just the bottom of the car and the dents in the doors with light gray to make it look 3D.
For the black 5th generation, leave a little white on the roof and hood. It will look shiny and smooth!
The grille and lights
Serena's grille shape is totally different for each generation.
For the side lines on the 4th and 6th generations, color between the lines with dark gray or black. Then color the lines silver to make them look shiny!
The diagonal lines on the 7th picture, the AUTECH line, are dark silver chrome on the real car. Color between the lines with black to make the diagonal pattern pop!
For the headlights, leave the inside white and color just the edges with light gray.
Windows, tires, and wheels
Color the window glass with light blue or gray, and leave diagonal white lines to make it look like real glass.
Color the tires with dark gray or black.
Wheels are usually silver, but the real AUTECH line car has slightly darker silver wheels.
There are many thin spokes, so color between them with dark gray slowly and carefully!
Fun Facts About Serena
The Engine Under the Seat
The first Serena had its engine under the front seats.
That made the front part of the car super short!
Starting from the second generation, the engine moved inside the front hood, making it more like a regular car.
If you compare the coloring pages for the first and second generations, you can see the difference in hood length!
A Back Door That Opens Just at the Top
The back door on the fifth and sixth generations of Serena uses a cool system called a Dual Back Door.
You can open the whole door wide, or you can open just the top half!
Even when a wall behind you stops you from opening the whole door, you can still open the top to put things in and take them out.
The Best-Selling Minivan of the Year
The fourth-generation Serena was the best-selling minivan for three years in a row, from 2011 to 2013!
The fifth generation was also the best-selling minivan in 2018.
Serena is a car that Japanese families have chosen for a long time!
It Won Lots of Awards Too
The sixth generation was chosen for the Technology Car of the Year at the 2023-2024 Japan Car of the Year awards, which is given to cars with amazing technology.
Even cars built for families are packed with cool new tech!
