A Cool Mazda Sports Car! The Mazda RX-8!

The RX-8 is a super cool sports car made by a company called Mazda. It has lots of unique features that make it totally different from other cars, like its engine and the shape of its doors.

The Only One in the World! The Rotary Engine!

The biggest secret of the RX-8 is its special engine called a "rotary engine." In normal cars, parts called pistons move up and down to make power. But in a rotary engine, a triangle-shaped part that looks like a rice ball spins around inside to make power. That is why it spins so smoothly and makes a nice, high sound!

Doors That Open Wide!

The RX-8 has 4 doors, but it looks just like a 2-door sports car. The back doors are special doors called "Freestyle Doors" that open the opposite way from the front doors. There is no pillar in the middle, so it is super easy to get in and out of the back seats.

It Is Like an Older Brother! The RX-7!

Before the RX-8 came out, Mazda had a super popular sports car called the "RX-7." The RX-7 is like a brother car to the RX-8 because it also has a rotary engine. The RX-7 was a real sports car that was great at driving fast. The 4-seater RX-8 was created so even more people could enjoy the fun of a rotary engine.

What Is Different Between the Early Model and Late Model?

The RX-8 comes in two types based on when it was made: the early model and the late model. Their looks and how they drive are a little bit different.

• Early Model (2003 to 2008): This is the first model. It has a smooth front bumper, and its brake lights look like round little LED dots.
• Late Model (2008 to 2012): This model came out later. The front bumper has a bigger opening, giving it a cooler and tougher face. The headlights and taillights got new designs too. Its engine and body were improved to make it drive even better.

What Does the Name RX-8 Mean?

How to Choose Your Colors

How to Make It Look 3D: Think About Light and Shadows!

Cars have rounded shapes. Adding just a few shadows makes them look real! Here are good spots for shadows:

• Inside the wheel wells and under the bumper
• Near the bottom of the doors and in the dips on the car's body
• In these spots, lightly add a color that is a little darker than your body color. This makes your car pop out and look 3D!

Try Drawing a Background!

Imagine where your RX-8 is driving!

• Racetrack: Draw a racecourse with lots of turns! It will look like you are in a real race!
• In the City: Draw bright city lights at night to make it look like a cool drive through the city.
• Mountain Road: Draw a winding road full of green trees to show a fun and breezy drive!
