About Yamanote Line
The green train that goes around and around the big city! The Yamanote Line!
The Yamanote Line is a train that runs in a big loop right through the middle of Tokyo, shaped like the letter "の". It works like a super important "main artery" for the busy city where so many people live. It carries lots of people every day, running continuously from morning to night.
What color is it?
When you think of the Yamanote Line, you think of its pretty "Japanese bush warbler green" train! Seeing this green train among all the tall city buildings makes a lot of people feel happy and relaxed.
How long has it been running?
The Yamanote Line has a very long history. The first train ran over 100 years ago, way back in the Meiji period! At first, it only ran on a small part of the track. But then, the tracks were connected step by step, and it became a full loop in the Taisho period. Old trains looked very different from the trains we see today!
It has so many stations!
Today, the Yamanote Line has 30 stations in total. Most of them are big stations, so you can change to many other train lines wherever you get off. Here are some especially famous stations:
- "Shinjuku Station", the busiest station used by the most people in Japan
- "Shibuya Station", with lots of cool and stylish department stores
- "Tokyo Station", close to big office areas and government buildings
- "Ueno Station", full of energy with places like Ameyoko Shopping Street
There are so many famous places to see! If you stay on the train for a full loop, it takes about 1 hour.
Which way does it go around?
On the Yamanote Line, going clockwise is called the "Outer Loop", and going counter-clockwise is called the "Inner Loop". Either way, it goes around and around through the streets of Tokyo. Make sure to check which way you want to go before you get on!
How to Color Yamanote Line
How to Choose Your Colors
When you color the Yamanote Line, the most important part is getting its special "bush warbler green" just right! Try different colors for the small parts to make it look just like a real train!
- Train Body: For the main color, use a bright green with a little bit of yellow. Among your green colored pencils or crayons, pick the one that is closest to the brightest color.
- Front Glass: For the windows, use light blue or light gray. This makes them look shiny like real glass!
- Lights: Color the front lights yellow or orange to make them look like they are turned on.
- Pantograph (The part on the roof that gets electricity): Color it neat and bold with black or dark gray.
- Doors and Connectors: You can use the same color as the train body, or use a light gray to make them stand out.
- Wheels and Bogies (The parts holding the wheels): Use dark gray or black to make the train look heavy and strong.
Make It Look Super Fast!
You can use your colors to make the train look like it is zooming by!
- Try Fun Backgrounds: Color the buildings and tracks in the background with lines pointing sideways, or draw lots of lines in the direction the train is going. This makes the Yamanote Line look like it is going "Whoosh!" really fast!
- When Using Colored Pencils: Move your pencil quickly back and forth in fast "swish-swish" strokes along the lines to give it a speedy feel.
Think About Lights and Shadows!
Trains are smooth, so they reflect light and shine! If you color the "lights" and "shadows," your train will pop out and look real.
- Bright Spots: Leave the roof, corners, and other shiny spots light, or just leave them white without coloring.
- Shadowy Spots: Places like around the wheels, under the train, and between the doors have shadows. Color them with a darker color than the main green or add a little bit of black to make your train look 3D!
Hints for Having Fun with Your Coloring Page!
The Yamanote Line is usually green, but it is also fun to color it with your favorite colors! A pink, light blue, or even a rainbow Yamanote Line would look amazing too!
