Subaru's Sports Car! WRX STI!

The WRX STI is a super cool sports car made by a Japanese company called Subaru! It was originally built for a type of race called "rallying," where cars compete for speed in all kinds of places around the world. The name WRX comes from "World Rally Experimental."

What Kind of Car Is It?

The WRX STI is packed with a special engine and cool tricks to keep its tires from slipping so it can drive really fast. It is especially famous for its "Symmetrical AWD (All-Wheel Drive)" system, which sends engine power to all four tires. Thanks to this, the tires can grip the ground tightly and drive safely, even on rainy or snowy roads.

The engine is Subaru's classic EJ20, which is a "horizontally opposed engine." In this engine, the parts move sideways like two boxers punching each other! This special engine helps the car stay super stable and stick close to the ground while driving.

History of the WRX STI!

The WRX STI first came out way back in 1992. At first, it started as a sports car model called the Impreza WRX STI. Then, in 2014, the WRX STI completely split off from the Impreza line and became its own car! The WRX STI won rally races many times, and a WRX STI with a blue body and gold wheels became the symbol of Subaru rally cars. Over time, its shape and performance have changed little by little, but the WRX STI is still loved by many people all over the world as a fast and cool sports car today.

Many WRX STI cars are sedans (cars with four doors and a trunk in the back), but long ago, there were also hatchback models (cars where the back door opens upward to load luggage). They are famous for having big rear wings and a big hole (air intake) on the hood to pull in lots of air.

To make it go even faster, a special version called the "WRX STI" was tuned up to boost its performance! It was made by "Subaru Tecnica International," which is Subaru's special racing department.

Rivals of the WRX STI

People say that the rival of the WRX STI (Impreza WRX STI) is the Lancer Evolution. That is because the "LanEvo" is a 4WD with a 2-liter inline-4 turbo engine, and the WRX STI (Impreza) is a 4WD with a 2-liter horizontally opposed turbo engine. Both cars did a fantastic job in WRC races, and their car designs are very similar, too!

How to Pick Your Colors

Coloring the WRX STI is super fun because you can make it look fast and cool!

• Basic body colors: If you want it to look like a rally car, Subaru Blue, famous as a bright blue, is a great choice! Other colors like white, black, silver, and red look very cool too. Pick any color you like!
• Wheels (the middle part of the tires): We really recommend gold! Silver or black also look awesome on it.
• Windows: If you color the windows a little bit light blue or gray, they will look just like real glass. It is also a great idea to leave a little bit of white space so they look shiny.
• Headlights: If you color the headlights yellow or pale light blue, they will look like they are glowing.
• Emblems: For the Subaru logo on the front of the car, blue is the best choice.

• If you use colored pencils: Move your pencil along the smooth lines of the car body. This makes it look like it is speeding by! If you push hard in some spots to make them dark, and push softly in other spots to make them light, your car will look 3D.
• If you use crayons: Try layering your colors a bit. This gives the car body a shiny finish!

How to Make It Look 3D: Think About "Shadows" and "Light"!

Cars have places where the light hits them and places in the shadow. If you keep this in mind while you color, your drawing will look much more 3D!

• Places in the shadow: Color the bottom of the car, the tire shadows, gaps in the doors, and dented parts of the bumper with a darker color. This makes it look 3D.
• Places where the light hits: Leave lighter colors or soft shades on the curved body parts and windows. That will make them look shiny and sparkly!

• Roads: Color the road where your WRX STI is driving with gray or black. Don't forget the lines in the middle of the road!
• Scenery: Imagine where the car is driving. You can draw the sky, mountains, or buildings! Try any color you like, such as a blue sky or a sunset sky.
• Speed lines: To make the car look like it is driving super fast, try drawing lots of side-to-side lines in the background. You can also blur the colors a little bit for a cool effect!
