Yarn mittens and scarf Coloring Pages
About Yarn mittens and scarf
Yarn mittens with just a thumb section
The first coloring page shows gloves called mittens.
Mittens have a separate spot for your thumb, but your other four fingers stay together in one big pocket.
Since your fingers touch each other, it is said that they help keep each other warm.
They are easy for little kids to put on and take off, too.
The mittens in the first picture have a big snowflake pattern in the middle and a zig-zag pattern knitted into them.
There are fluffy pompoms at the wrists, too.
The left and right mittens are connected with a string, so you will not lose just one of them.
A matching scarf and knit hat
On the second coloring page, you will see lots of warm yarn items to wear in winter.
On the left is a striped scarf with a fringe on the ends.
In the middle is a knit hat with a big pompom on top.
The hat has fun patterns of reindeer, fir trees, and snowflakes.
The mittens on the right have hearts and fir trees on them.
At the bottom, you can see a ball of yarn and knitting needles, with holly leaves and snowflakes floating all around.
Grandma knitting by the fireplace
The third page shows a cozy room with a fireplace on a snowy night.
Grandma is sitting in a chair, moving her knitting needles to make a striped scarf.
Next to her, a happy little girl is sitting in a knit hat, sweater, and mittens.
The basket by their feet is full of yarn balls, and a kitten is playing with a ball of yarn.
Above the fireplace, you can see decorations shaped like mittens and stockings.
Snow is piling up outside the window, making the room feel extra warm and cozy inside.
Yarn comes from sheep's wool
Most yarn is made from sheep's wool.
Sheep's wool has tiny, curly hairs that hold a lot of air inside.
This trapped air keeps your body heat from escaping, which is why yarn things feel so warm.
When you knit yarn stitch by stitch with knitting needles, you can make warm mittens and scarves!
How to Color Yarn mittens and scarf
Use 2 or 3 colors for the knitted patterns
The trick for patterns on gloves and hats is to clearly change the colors between the background and the pattern.
For example, if you make the background red, the snowflakes white, and the zigzag pattern green, it will look like knitting from a cold northern country!
If you use too many colors, the pattern gets hard to see. So try to pick just 2 or 3 colors.
For white patterns, it is a great idea to leave the paper white without coloring it in.
Set the color order for the scarf's stripes
For a striped scarf, decide the order of the colors first before you start coloring.
If you pick a repeating order, like red-white-green or dark blue-light blue-white, you will get a nice, neat striped pattern!
Coloring the tassels in the same color as the scarf makes them look just like the ends of yarn.
If you color the yarn ball the same color as the scarf, too, it shows that "this scarf was knitted from this yarn," which is super fun!
Fluffy pom-poms and a warm fireplace
To make a pom-pom look soft and round, color the edges a bit darker and the middle lighter.
For the fire in the fireplace on the 3rd page, make the middle yellow and the outside orange or red.
If you add a little light orange to the bricks and floor around the fire, it will look like they are glowing in the firelight!
Color the sky outside the window a dark blue or navy night sky and leave the snow white. That will make the inside of the room feel extra warm and cozy!
We also recommend placing this next to Ice skating, another winter coloring page, and giving the gloves matching colors!
Fun Facts About Yarn mittens and scarf
Most Japanese gloves are made in Kagawa Prefecture
About 90 percent of the gloves made in Japan come from Higashikagawa City in Kagawa Prefecture.
It all started about 130 years ago when a person from this town began making gloves in Osaka.
After that, glove-making spread to their hometown, and today it is known as the town of gloves.
They make all kinds of gloves there, including gloves for skiing, golf, and work.
Gloves with snowflake and reindeer patterns
Patterns of snowflakes, reindeer, and fir trees have long been used in Northern European knitting.
In cold, snowy countries, people have knitted these patterns into winter gloves and sweaters.
Now they are popular in Japan, too, as patterns for winter gloves and scarves.
Around Christmas, you will see a lot of clothes with these patterns.
Yarn mittens and scarf and 5-finger gloves
There are two main types of gloves: Yarn mittens and scarf like in the first picture, and 5-finger gloves where each finger is separate.
Yarn mittens and scarf keep your fingers extra warm because they touch each other, while 5-finger gloves make it easy to do tiny tasks while wearing them.
When you play in the snow, water-repellent gloves keep your hands dry and warm.
It is great to pick the right gloves for where you play and what you do!
