About Odyssey
The Pioneer of Low Minivans
Odyssey is a minivan made by Honda.
A minivan has a big room inside with three rows of seats for lots of people.
The first model came out in 1994.
Back then, most big cars were tall and shaped like boxes.
Odyssey became super popular because it was low and drove smoothly, just like a regular car.
People say it was one of the first cars that started the minivan boom!
Secrets of Its Name and Features
"Odyssey" means a long, adventurous journey.
The name comes from an old Greek story called "The Odyssey."
Honda made it with the wish that everyone would enjoy long drives, making the journey itself just as fun as reaching your destination.
Every generation has a special trick where you can fold the third-row seats into the floor.
When you hide the seats away, you get tons of space in the back for big luggage!
The 5 Generations of Odyssey
The 1st generation came out in 1994. Its back doors opened just like a regular car.
The 2nd generation arrived in 1999 with a sportier ride. In 2001, a lower version called Absolute joined the family.
The 3rd generation came out in 2003 and was made much lower. It was finally short enough to fit into most multi-story parking garages!
The 4th generation came out in 2008, keeping the cool, low, and long shape of the 3rd one.
The 5th generation launched in 2013. It got taller and used sliding doors on both sides for the first time. A hybrid version was added in 2016.
Production of the 5th generation paused in Japan for a bit. But in 2023, it went on sale again by bringing cars built at a factory in China to Japan!

How to Color Odyssey
Copy the real colors
All five sample cars are white.
The fourth-generation sample car is not plain white, but a shiny, pearl-like white.
For white cars, leave the paper white and color only the shadowy parts with light gray. That will make your Odyssey look 3D!
Of course, you can color it with your favorite color or the color of your family car. If you use different colors for each generation, it will be fun to line up all five pages!
How to color a long and low car body
The third and fourth generations have low roofs and long car bodies when you look at them from the side.
When you color the wide side parts, move your colored pencil in the same direction from the front of the car to the back. This makes the sleek shape stand out!
The third, fourth, and fifth generations have parts called side skirts along the bottom edge of the car body. Color them the same color as the body, and make the very bottom a little darker to make the Odyssey look low to the ground.
On the first and second generations, the hood and windows connect smoothly. If you leave the top part white where the light hits, it will look super shiny!
Grilles, windows, and lights
The grilles on the third and fifth generations have a fine pattern like a honeycomb. Color the inside black or dark gray, and leave the outer edges and side bars silver to make it look real!
Color the windows light blue or gray, and leave diagonal white lines to make them look like real glass.
The sample car for the fifth generation has dark windows, so coloring them dark gray looks cool too.
Leave the inside of the headlights white and color only the edges with light gray. On the first generation, color the small outer part of the headlights orange to make it look just like the real Odyssey!
Tires and wheels
Color the tires dark gray or black.
The wheels on the first generation and the hubcaps on the second generation are bright silver.
The wheels on the third, fourth, and fifth generation sample cars are a slightly darker grayish silver.
If you color the spaces between the spokes black, the shape of the wheels will pop right out!
Fun Facts About Odyssey
A Shape Born from the Factory
When the first Odyssey was made, people say Honda did not have much money to spare for a brand-new car.
So, they kept the car's size smaller so it could be built on the same factory line as the Accord sedan.
Thanks to that, it became a low-height minivan. This made it drive really well, and it became super popular!
The Year It Outsold the Crown
In 1995, the first Odyssey sold more than 120,000 cars in Japan!
It even beat Toyota's Crown, which had been the best-selling big car for a very long time.
In 1994, it also won the Japan Car of the Year Special Award.
Its popularity kept going, and by 2009, more than 1 million cars had been sold in Japan in total!
A Minivan That Fits in Multi-Story Parking
Many mechanical multi-story parking lots at places like apartments have a limit on how tall a car can be.
For the 3rd model, they made the floor super low by making the fuel tank flatter, keeping the height to 1,550 mm.
This made it a 3-row car that could fit into many multi-story parking lots!
Even so, they made sure the ceiling inside the car was actually higher than the model before it!
