About Excursion

A fun event where everyone goes out together

An Excursion is a fun event where you go to parks, mountains, or zoos with everyone from your kindergarten, preschool, or school.
You leave your usual classroom to walk, play, and eat lunch together with your friends and teachers.
An Excursion often happens in spring and autumn.
The autumn Excursion is held in a cool season that makes it easy to walk, and the colorful red and yellow tree leaves look so pretty.

Excitement the day before the Excursion

The day before the Excursion, you pack your belongings in your backpack to get ready.
Don't forget to pack your lunch, water bottle, picnic mat, handkerchief, tissues, and raincoat.
Many of you might look up at the sky before bed, hoping for good weather tomorrow.
Some people even hang up a teru teru bozu paper doll to pray for a sunny day.

3 Coloring pages

The 1st page shows a child wearing a hat and backpack, waving happily as they set off.
They have a water bottle slung over their shoulder, and you can see maple leaves and acorns on the ground at their feet.
The 2nd page shows 3 children eating lunch on a picnic mat in a field. One child is eating a rice ball, one is showing off their lunch box, and another is drinking tea from a water bottle.
The 3rd page is a detailed drawing of a teacher and children walking along a path on an autumn plateau with swaying pampas grass.
Try to find the lookout tower on the hill, the red dragonflies, and the mushrooms by the roadside too.

The best part of an Excursion: lunch time

The best part of an Excursion is eating your lunch box outside.
Rice balls, octopus-shaped sausages, rolled omelets, and cherry tomatoes.
Even your usual food tastes so much better when you eat it together under the blue sky.
What is inside the lunch box on the 2nd page? Imagine your favorite foods as you color it in.

Things to find on an autumn Excursion

On an autumn Excursion, you can find acorns, pinecones, and pretty fallen leaves along the path.
Ears of pampas grass sway in the fields, and red dragonflies zip gracefully through the sky.
We also have coloring pages for other autumn outings, like gathering acorns and autumn leaf viewing.

How to Color Excursion

Hats and Backpacks Look Great in Bright Colors

Color the Excursion hat in a bright color like yellow, red, or light blue so it stands out from far away.
If you use different colors for each backpack, like blue, pink, or green, it is easy to tell whose is whose and so much fun!
Try using a different color for the water bottle than the backpack to make your picture extra lively.

Color the Lunch Box Just Like Real Food

Leave the rice balls white and color the seaweed dark green or black.
Make the octopus sausage red, the rolled omelette yellow, the cherry tomato red, and the broccoli green to make a yummy lunch!
For the checkered picnic mat, try coloring every other square blue and white, or red and white.

Make Red and Yellow the Stars of the Autumn View

Color the maple leaves red or orange, and the ginkgo leaves yellow.
Color the silver grass heads light yellowish-brown or silvery gray to make it look just like an autumn field.
Color the sky light blue and leave the flaky clouds white to show a clear autumn sky.

In the Third Picture, Use Different Clothes Colors for Everyone

In the third picture, lots of children are walking on their Excursion.
If you give everyone different colors for their clothes, hats, and backpacks, you will get a fun and lively Excursion group!
Color the far-away mountains in a lighter color than the front ones to make them look like they go on forever.

In the First Picture, Make the Shoes and Water Bottle Look Cool Too

For the child in the first picture, color the shoes red or blue and the socks white to make them look full of energy.
Color the acorns at their feet brown and the caps dark brown.
It is also cute to color one maple leaf red and another one yellow!

Fun Facts About Excursion

The Word "Excursion"

"Excursion" means, just as the words say, walking on foot to a far-away place.
It is said that Excursion began in the Meiji period as a school event, where children walked long distances in lines.
A long time ago, people often walked for hours to go out, without using buses or trains.

Excursion, Lunch Boxes, and Snacks

When you go on an Excursion, you might bring snacks together with your lunch box.
There is often a rule like "Snacks up to XX yen," and thinking about which ones to choose at the store is one of the fun parts of an Excursion.
The question "Are bananas considered snacks?" is a famous, classic joke people have asked before an Excursion for a long time.

Excursion and Social Studies Field Trips

Besides an Excursion, there are also events called social studies field trips where you go to see places like factories, fire stations, and museums.
An Excursion is often about playing and walking in nature, while a social studies field trip is mostly about seeing and learning how things work and how people job.

Walking Makes Your Body Nice and Warm

When you walk a lot, your body warms up and you get hungry.
This might be why your Excursion lunch box tastes so good!
When you walk, remember to drink tea from your water bottle often.
