About Shibayama Railway
The Shortest Railway in Japan! Shibayama Railway Runs Under Narita Airport
Shibayama Railway is a train running right next to Narita Airport in Chiba Prefecture. Among all the train companies in Japan operating regular railways, it is famous for having the shortest track length in Japan. It connects Higashi-Narita Station under Narita Airport to Shibayama-Chiyoda Station in neighboring Shibayama Town. The ride takes only a few minutes. But it is a fun railway where you can enjoy special views unlike anywhere else, like passing under the airport and running right next to airplanes!
The History of How Shibayama Railway Was Born
Shibayama Railway opened in 2002. When Narita Airport was built, the huge airport grounds made travel tricky for nearby areas like Shibayama Town. So, to make life easier for people living in the town, this railway was built under Narita Airport to connect the town and the airport. Today, it is loved not only by local people going to work or school, but also by airport workers and train fans from all over Japan!
Cool Things About the Trains
